Yeah idk dude, hearing a Lab player complain that floodgates are too toxic for a format is the definition of Yugioh hypocrisy and makes this really hard to take seriously. If anything lingering floodgates are less toxic than continuous trap floodgates, because you also find yourself in a “Draw the out or lose” situation unless you open Storm, Duster, Cyclone. This format has been great and is drawing players in, at Orlando I didn’t hear a single person complain there was too much Maliss or Ryzeal. This is literally, “I just needed to complain about something.”

Imo the Maliss hate comes from 3 things: 1) Most mained handtraps are effectively useless at face value from stopping their combos 2) People don't know how to beat it 3) People underestimated it When I first played against Maliss I couldn't help but feel helpless with my hand traps as Ash didn't stop the monsters from coming out and my Imperm/Veilers were getting dodged by the traps. It's overwhelming just how much they climb into...at first. I didn't know what Maliss did because all the attention was on Ryzeal so I focused on that deck. After learning about it you realize things like that Ash and Ghost Belle are amazing against the traps so they use their best outs too early. The only thing I'll give people now is that Bao/Gyphon is a new floodgate available to them, but just play Ogre and wait for the Bao, Nib and drop it before the Bao, run Droplet to negate Gryphon. That line requires a commitment to the Gryphon so focus on that.

Infinite grind, hyper-consistency, and quick aggro sound pretty good on paper. But the problem is, all of these strategies can lead to explosive combos if you unluckily don’t draw the right cards to stop them. Playing against modern top-tier decks often requires specific counters, which makes the game feel like a luck fest-either you draw the right card or you lose. If the power level were lower, this format could actually have a solid design. Floodgates are annoying, but sadly, they’re one of the few things that can effectively counter decks that generate too much advantage. If a floodgate is needed to stop or weaken a deck’s power, doesn’t that mean the deck itself is just as problematic as the floodgate?

This game desperately needs alternative formats, i swear to god. It'd probably even help to drive down the cost of cards if the player base was more evenly spread across different formats. Konami would HAVE to target the other formats when designing products in order to keep making money, which would mean that they wouldn't be able to shove as much meta shit for the advanced format in high rarity slots.

Knightmare gryphon is so out-able. Ryzeal has such an advantage and there are like 15 cards that pretty much get you lancea which destroys maliss. Nothing destroys Ryzeal FS/Mitsurugi like lancea does to maliss. Also fuwalos, meowls, chaos hunter ETC… There is so much anti-maliss cards. If you’re complaining about Maliss and only Maliss you dont know yugioh. Remember Snake Eye? Tenpai Shifter OTK Turbo? These decks are so much more fair and beatable. There are such easy fixes though. Ban lancea, Ban shifter, put called by at 2, Ban Dweller. Hit the fiendsmith & kashtira engine. Leave the rest. When we don’t have ANY generic omni-negates that now get insta-hit after their reprint, the only options are floodgates. If we take those out wtf do we even go into? Detonator pass, Hearts crypter pass? Ryzeal becomes more tier 0 than it already is bc you can not compare 1 banish to like up to 8-9 pops & protection & revive that Detonator has. Bro boo-hoo you gotta play some cards to counter maliss that aren’t as good against ryzeal than they are to maliss like Ghost Belle. Do yall want a Tier 0 Format?? It’s definitely a weird format in that the decks that are good are good in largely pretty fair ways. Still expensive though. I am tired of every deck playing all the engines. I appreciate the occasional pile decks, I think they’re cool. I just want to play against more things, and I want to see people play more things. Price is still my main issue though. I feel like I would see people play more decks if the prices were lower on the must play staples and engines.

I must actually admit to thinking this format is a lot better than what we were in with Snake eye hell, but from a personal side I don't really like the lack of diversity and the need to play one of two rather expensive decks to do well, but it can be worked around at least. Floodgates, a bit of a problem but can still kinda be worked around and planned for but does feel fun. Maliss is a challenging deck because it is hard at times to interact with the deck with how easily they dodge cards like imperm, but it does actually show a bit of skill on the player's side. So overall a pretty good format, just a little pricey but that's gonna change with the blue eyes structure decks which is awesome that budget players also get thrown a bone this time, and let's hope for a bit more diversity in terms of decks but still a lot better than snake eye.

This format would rock without the dumbass silver bullets like Lancea, Shifter, Droll, Dweller, Barrier etc. Drop these and you can give the decks more ability to be interacted with, which is already a strength of the format in my eyes. It's a lot more fun than that endless Snake Eye format was anyway, since the top decks have very clear weaknesses and answers.

its crazy that rn the 2 best decks have completly opposite playstyles. controll, low to the ground. can play through 15 handtraps and still pass on a respectable board and huga booga balls to the wall wombo combo. for that exact reason if u want to play literally anything in between those 2, u will probably lose, or at least u are gonna lose to the deck that does what u want to do but better. u wanna play a control deck? ryzeal is better than your deck. u wanna play a combo deck? well maliss is way better.

you know what, no. Floodgates and hand traps are fun, you can delude yourself that yugioh is all about "back and forth and grind games and interractions and yada yada" Nah Yugioh is all about playing a puzzle that will lead into a board that prevents your opponent from playing. Why do you play hand traps? Do you think to yourself "oh boy i will put this Ash blossom and imperm and called by to slow down my opponent?" No you put those there thinking that it will stop him and end his turn. Why do people play floodgates, to stop their opponents. Why does everyone calls a card that doesn't negate or floodgates your opponent shit? because if it doesn't not stop your opponent it's not good enough. Yugioh is all about preventing the other player from playing, doesn it matter that he is not having fun? No what matters is that you are having fun and winning. We suuuure all hate floodgates, but we all go "hah break this bucko" when we fullboard negate or skill drain their whole strategy away. No man ever said "oh man my ash blossom and imperm made my opponent stop entirely and pass turn, this sucks" we all go "hell yeah now you'll die" People are ultra coping if they think that yugioh is anything but this.

There really isn't a puzzle to solve when the floodgate in question entirely prevents your deck from functioning. You just pass and probably lose, wow so cool and fun right? The side deck also means they are never a weakness for you, because you only play them when you know they're going to do exactly that. Floodgates are perfectly fine in slower paced games, but in Yugioh, you lose if you don't have an immediate answer more often than not. This type of card design has aged poorly as Yugioh has changed over time.

Grind games tend to reward lond term thinking and strategy. Hand trap stuns reward having a good hand (tho it can reward deck Building but makes all deck the same) and punish the opponent for not drawing the out. Thb I like exploring my oppnent mechanich and how their boss monsters stnergize
