I was there at that concert! The theater was located in Milan (which is my home town), where I saw many concerts, including an instrumental of Bruce Springsteen. Unfortunately now instead of the theater will be built a shopping mall ... there are fewer spaces for live music, but Milan resist! On July 18, Depeche Mode San Siro!

Don't stop until you listen to 00:15:00 through 00:16:00 - There are some really beautiful layers of harmony developing that Stewart is responding to, in his composition.
Copeland must be into Zappa as much as me but unlike me he's a good musician.

His father was CIA station chief in beirut in 1968. I lived in Rome at the time and went to interntional school with some Beirut kids. That was before beirut fell to the lousy uslim fanatics who ruined it. It used to be the jewel of the middle east and no wonder he could get such a good musical education there at the time.

for a guy who claims to dislike Jazz music as much as Stewart does, its funny how so much of his "orchestra" music really sounds like Jazz music.
@MrIamalego7 жыл бұрын
Nathan Hassall it's funny you mention that. He was crammed full of Buddy Rich as a kid, and I think it sunk in as much as he disagrees. What also is strange is that Stewart and Buddy aren't much different personality wise...
@aligatorsandwitch726 жыл бұрын
I think he loves Jazz but just acknowledges that 99% of it is trash.
@AraliaFresia3 жыл бұрын
@@aligatorsandwitch72 that does a lot of harm to say that in so many ways, this: 99% of it is trash? I remember when Stewart used to say: “Jazz? If it sounds like wrong notes to you, it just means you’re not sophisticated enough to appreciate the alternate harmonies.” I think Stewart says the other thing due to a lot of too-loud guitarists in bands he was in after The Police, one which was a very mediocre avante garde jazz group. Stewart has a lot of power of persuasion and by saying things like: “jazz is a refuge of the talentless”, he’s demonstrating an overly complacent people-pleasing tendency. The fact is, jazz was started by acoustic instruments. Let’s keep it that way: jazz means “old-school” - but nowadays, jazz tries to include music that isn’t jazz. This, it is my preferred humble opinion. I’m sure Sting would also agree. #jazzdoesnotsuck . Guitar is the instrument that’s on the fringe of jazz. It needs to be electric and amplified, yes, but it should not be used as an excuse to go all electronic and demonic with phony brass and fake woodwinds, too. Playing those is like saying you’re exercising when a petrol motor on your bike is doing all the muscle work for you. facebook.com/intljazzday/posts/3493398747381479

20:54 So that's why I don't see Copeland use 3 rack toms anymore, and now uses only the 10 and 13 as his toms and setting the 12 on his left. It was mostly because he needed space to reach the hi-hat better!

Agree!!!!
@AraliaFresia3 жыл бұрын
I listen to the entire thing and really have good things to say about it along with the bad, because the best way to listen to music is the last half first because that's how a composer rolls. They start with nothing and then build on that! But I agree with you about the fake electronic woodwinds. HOWEVER, I'm a clarinet player and it's the most difficult instrument to depend on, with all the register changes and squeaks and such. Clarinets and Oboes and Bassoons need lots of warm up time and that's just a pain. So he just made a common sense move there. But I agree with you!
