This man is a St. Kilda legend in the true sense of the word. Awesome player for the Saints thanks Stewie.

Thanks for the loyalty, honesty and memories of a great career. You can tell he's a man of integrity and hope he's involved in the club in the future.

Great guy and player. No surprise he was the most liked and respected by all his league peers.

Buckets was my favourite at the time and always will be. A true legend of the club and of the game.

I started watching AFL in the mid 80s when it finally got broadcast in the UK, and I was spoilt for choice with all the amazing players that were playing the game then. I am a Hawthorn fan, but I remember Stewart Loewe as being an extremely good mark (and player) for St Kilda - so it's not a total surprise to learn that he's the all time leader in marks. Aside from that. he was great to watch. I'm sorry that he never won a Premiership (which he doubtless would if he'd gone to Hawthorn), but a terrific career anyway.

ameagher2 I'm a wee bit invested after thirty plus years, but I have had the privilege of watching Collingwood play in London a couple of times. The first time, Michael Christian went to full forward for a laugh and kicked eight goals. Brilliant days out - how I envy you guys being able to go every week when I get one game a year if I'm very lucky.

JimShadyUK I was thinking of upping the bribe but I see you're a person of principle. My sister, born into a Pie family, changed to the Saints upon her wedding ... after a few years we forgave her. M. Christian ... eight goals? You were probably at a Spurs v Gunners game you silly bugger. P'haps a bit before your time but John "Bomber" Hendry is an in-law. He played defense in the Hawk's golden era of the seventies... no one shall pass. Now, decades later, I find him to be a moral and gentle human ... grrr Come down for the next G. Final ... I've never been ... too expensive.

As a young boy and a doggies supporter I was a big fan of Stew. My brother is a fair bit older than me and I think he pointed out Stewie as an example of a guy with a "professional" approach - doing what it takes to improve himself. I remember the reputation he had, and I guess a lot of blokes of that time wouldn't have been as willing to go through that routine for kicking goals for fear of looking stupid when you miss. A lot of footy games are won by less than a goal. A good example for all the ordinary goalkickers of today.

Can remember sitting at the 50metre line out at Waverley one day and Loewe went for a mark and Mick Martyn gave him the loudest whack to the side of the head. Never heard a louder hit. Stewie didn’t even flinch just kept going about his business.

I am a North supporter but always really liked Stewie. Met him once at a wedding in late 90s and although he was a well known high profile player he was really down to earth and personable, speaking in that calm manner he did in the interview. Players like him, Harvey, Burke, Lockett deserved the ultimate success but just didn't go his way.

They had Lockett up forward with Loewe and Nicky Winmar and Robert Harvey in the middle. All they needed was a good coach and administration and they could have easily won at least 3 flags.

I still think Kenny Sheldon did a great job with St.Kilda in the early 90's.

He doesnt have the most marks in the AFL/VFL Gary Dempsey does. If we're talking AFL only, Nick Rewoldt ended up with more marks the Loewe when he ended his career in 2017. Stewart Loewe is right up there though and one of the greats.

Adelaide did the same to North in 98’. Both St Kilda and North should have put them away at half time. Adelaide were not the best side in either 97 or 98.
