I like both fellas that do these videos, don't get me wrong but this guy comes on without smiling and is "beta blocker/xanax" calm. Kinda like a killer, either way great tools, great videos. Keep up the awesome channel. :)

"Ready to move on to the next fret"? Wouldn't it be easier to push the fret ends down on all the frets, replace the caul *once* and press them all down?

Hey that looks really handy and easy... (Looks at price).. i think ill stick with the mallet

I always see people complaining about StewMac prices, and granted-their tools are expensive; but if you're not going to make the money back within a few of your own fret jobs, then you might want to look for alternatives. They do have good stuff, and I've never been disappointed. I should also add, their stuff is solid as a rock and they have good customer service.

it's not even that those vice jaws are around $200 !!!! if you were to buy them yourself and then you'd have to modify
@Nomadicsage16 жыл бұрын
Fuck stewmac and their overpriced shit,I can buy cheaper tools elsewhere with equal quality.

I wish you'd make a caul specifically for the area where the neck slides INTO the heel ???
@sandybarker193 жыл бұрын
$336, they're crazy. I can buy an arbor press for $50 and modify it to fit a fret caul for nothing.

I am curious. Can you use this on high frets of a set neck guitar?

Can you use the press where the frettboard is over the guitar body? At 14. frett 15. Frett 16.frett etc. On acoustick guitars ?

Problem is I have a neck-thru 6 string. I can find long 6 string inserts, but getting that C clamp across the fins to the little frets near the body is going to be impossible with this.
@pluckerpick6 жыл бұрын
Jaws 2 does the whole neck and beyond the heel with the neck on so why would I pay twice the price for something that only does half the job? If this came a combination kit to cover all scenarios at a reasonable price it may be worth considering.

I always thought you could do the same thing but use a drill press in place of the pliers. Just mount the caul onto a shaft which could be placed inside the chuck. Don't turn on the drill. Slide the neck under the unit and line it up and then press down like you would normally do when drilling and it would seat the fret.
@TheHoverfish7 жыл бұрын
Flyers 50 I thought so too but maybe it's just my drill press... the table deflects under the pressure.
@Cigarsnguitars7 жыл бұрын
I don't have a drill press and the last time I used one was about 10 years ago, in my dad's shop. I was trying to remember some of the nuances of the one he had.
@frontbum4207 жыл бұрын
could you ad a 3/4 piece of plywood to stop deflection?
@TheHoverfish7 жыл бұрын
JJ JJ I was just thinking that this morning. I would have to add about a 10" wood block to support the table. Then it should work fine.

They do sell an inexpensive drill press caul jig.
@chicagoray19725 жыл бұрын
For about 30 to 40 dollars you can get a caul and various radius inserts. The caul goes right into your existing drill press. The other option is a good quality but still much cheaper fretting mallet. I am an ironworker. We don't use a hammer, we use a "beater". Otherwise known as a sledgehammer. If I can properly use a fretting mallet anybody can.
