I have been enjoying your macro videos. You do great work. On this video I have a technical question. If you use live-view the mirror has to be raised, otherwise you could not use live-view. Therefore, I believe, there is no need to raise the mirror. In fact, I have read that using Mirror Lock Up may create some vibration when the shutter opens. In live-view the shutter is open and the exposure is initiated electronically, so there is no movement at all. So I think you may have made a mistake in your live-view vs mirror lock up comment.
@StewartWoodArt
@StewartWoodArt 5 жыл бұрын
Just looked over my camera settings and your right :) Not sure why it didn't work before when using live view, maybe my triggers are not compatible with live view. Thank you very much, next time I do this type of video I'll be sure to mention you :)
@philipculbertson55
@philipculbertson55 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly right. The mirror has to be up for live-view to function (otherwise it would block the sensor) so no need for mirror lock up when in live view. If using viewfinder, Mirror lock up does help stem any vibration.

5 years later and we now have mirrorless cameras. Set the camera to electronic shutter and there is zero vibration except for you pressing the button or touching the screen to release it there. But that's what the 2 or 10 second timer is for, allow things to settle and then the camera takes in the image. Love my Canon RF body! But a lot of my friends still use DSLRs.

Thanks for this, was looking for glycerin water mix ration but stayed to watch the whole video. Just a note, live view is shutter lock up I believe, thus the click when you go in and out of live view and why you have an image as the mirror is moved out of the way and shutter set to show the live exposure etc....

I only crop if I have to. I've never had a drop off in sharpness when using extension tubes. What lens are you using?

@@StewartWoodArt Sony A7R3 and the 90mm Macro (1:1). The lens is quite heavy. Using extension tubes the lens hangs down a little bit. I can lift the Lens some mm. I´m asking myself a. if a bellow would be the better solution b. filter lens or c. if should by the metallic version of the extension tube instead ob the plastic one. Furthermore, I figured out that the minimal focus distance of the lens is 14cm and not as indicated 30cm. I think this value refers to auto focus.

@@StewartWoodArt Addendum: I tried the extension tubes on my A6000 (outdoor/travel) camera and I get good results on 35mm+ focal length. That is great. On my next journey I can make some macro photos without carrying a 1kg lens.

I would not use the plastic ones, try the metal ones. with that setup you should be getting sharp images.
