I was smitten when I first laid eyes on a S-M in a local gunshop here in the UK. It was in .243 and I loved the lightness and pointability of the gun. It was overpriced as well as beaten-up so I passed on it but subsequently found a near-mint 1988 .308 Luxus with a double set-trigger for way less money. I bought it and never regretted it. A truly beautiful weapon.

Watched this clip several times, been getting excited and yesterday I was in the gunshop and got me one of my own, precisely this model. I have removed the old linseedoil from the wood, sanded away all old scratches and now when I oiled it in, it looks brand new again, such a wonderful rifle! Thank you for a really nice video. Greetings from Sweden

Just ordered the full stock model in 9.3x62. Has a few mods so collectors value gone and I can take it out for Bison. Nice camera work. You helped me make the decision to buy! Bolt reminds me of a higher quality Rem 788 bolt.

I own the same rifle in perfect condition from new. The Steyr symbol on the bottom of the grip is pure silver and the Steyr name can be removed by a sliver smith and replaced by yours or whatever else you want. The one in the movie has oxide but will shine up like new. The set trigger is gold plated. This model also came with two triggers as (I think) standard. The set forward to make hair trigger was an option. I used it to take a Roosevelt Elk at just over 500 yards (proven) with one shot using the set. Steyr and Mannlicher made its world famous name on African big game and wartime sniper rifles in the old days. Thanks for the really well done movie.

+Ron D Hi Ron - thanks for the info. I didn't know the grip cap logo was pure silver!!! I should have asked for more money when I sold it!!! Rats....

I also have the single gold trigger 30-06 model, the trigger as you stated, hinges forward to "set" it for much less pull weight needed. AWESOME rifle, extremely accurate, beautiful. I have used it for deer hunting since I was 21 I am 65 now, and it is in AS NEW shape. I have taken 25 deer with it. It has a Conetrol base and scope mounts with a 3-9X40 VariX II Leopold scope. Fantastic set up. I also purchased the 6 round magazine for it.

Forgot to add, mine is the full length (Mannlicher style) walnut stock.

You have some beautiful rifles, sir. This one is a gem. I recently purchased a Steyr rifle from a generation before this one - a Mannlicher-Schönauer with a 60cm barrel, that unfortunately does not have the spiralized hammermarkings that your's does. Mine is in 7x64 Brenneke, and I cannot wait to take it out for fallow deer... once the licence arrives.

This is a thorough review. Thank you. I guess this is why I have 3 of them. As soon as you pick one up you realize the quality and forget about the price.

Do you know when they stopped making this version of the Luxus? I know they still make it but it's different and a bit more costly considering the website doesn't even have a price listed...

I heard that they no longer offer the beautiful bluing due to government regulations.

The Model M's seem to be a slight cut above the other models such as the S and L, but I'm no expert. I say that because they remind me a bit of the SSG-69's, but I think it's just because all Steyr's are a cut above everything else...

I agree. I like the steel magazine though. The plastic rotary mags can break if dropped while loaded. Murphy's Law....
@DMX-PAT4 жыл бұрын
@@Riflechair Yeah I'm trying to find one that has a steel mag, it's difficult to tell from a picture alone and that's typically how I buy my guns now as there's just so much selection from random gun shops all over the province and country for that matter. I also like those older mannlicher schönauer's, with that mosin style bolt. They get picked up rather quickly whenever they come up...

The Luxus is definitely a cut above the standard L, M and S versions. The letter designations refer to action length ; L is short action; M is standard (.30-06) length; S is magnum length. Great video presentation of a unique and somewhat rare variant!

Do you know if it is possible to buy replacment magazines for these rifles? Does anybody make magazines and parts for these rifles?
@daverodkey5 жыл бұрын
Steyer sells them, or at least they did... I bought an extended 6 shot mag for my Luxux M. This was "probably" 15 years ago....
