Perhaps these J3Y & Y1's should be the first things to look for - other than the screen not being connected, that is? As it (the J3Y/Y1) seems to be a common thing that fails?

Those two 512 (5.1k ohm) resistors @4:48 are on CC1 and CC2 pins on the USB Type-C connection, a quick and dirty way to pull 5V at up to 3A from a charger.

First step should always be a visual inspection of the board. I saw the hole in that transistor as soon as the picture of the board was visible. However good to see you tracing the voltage path and finding it anyway. Nice simple fix.😀

So glad it worked after assembly first try! You did not have to reopen it this time. Those Y1/J3Y thingies seem to fail quite often, or are they designed to be the point of failure to protect the rest of the devices…

nice fix and great to see that it works right on the first reasembly without any prior testing. This fix shows how much knowledge you built up over time. Really annoying thing with SMD is j3 might be a transistor with one manufacturer but a zener with another manufacturer and try finding out the manufacturer is nearly impossible

Hi Steve love your videos ....can i pick your brains please ...i bought a Roberts MP-23 cd/mp3/usb/card/ dab radio unit off the car boot...cd works fine lovely tone ,came with remote ...but remote only works cd /equaliser and volume ...it wont switch the unit off or let me access any of the other functions 😔 so i went on ebay and bought a replacement remote ...same problem so my question is ....how can an IR receiver be selective tried the remote pointing at my phone camera thats flashing ok on all buttons ... Im sad as i was really hoping the replacement would do the trick 😕😕can you point me in the right direction please 🙂

The hole in the xistor was where the "magic smoke" escaped.. which is why it didn't work and needed to be replaced

This is arcade Pac-Man with the vertical screen. They also do a version with NES Pac-Man and a horizontal screen and A/B buttons.

I couldn't see clearly from the far shots in the video, but is this one of those MyArcade games that have the jumpers that let you switch between five different games? Pac-Man is one of the five, but because it has no action buttons one would have to mod the case and add new ones. Also, missed opportunity to use "Pac-Man Fever" as the end card music.

Funny thing is that I have 40yr old electronic games like this that aren't broken, But modern day stuff, give it a couple of years, Same with consoles, I still have a commodore 64 that has never been recapped but try that with modern stuff 40yrs down the road, not a chance, China Vs Japan I guess.
