I like everything I'm hearing so far. Love the fact that ordinary captains no longer have access to all the heroic actions, but I must say I'm hopeful that faction-specific special heroic actions will be given to ordinary captains on a case-by-case basis, to give each factions captains a really different flavour. For example with Lothlorien there are only 4 named characters, and it would be a pity if they were the ONLY ones to get additional heroic actions beyond the basic three. I look forward to getting the new books and seeing for myself. :)

Wonderful. Well there has been a couple of omissions and mistakes here and there so it might be worth reading a bit as well. I don't know if every opponent will agree when there is a rules dispute and you just say "the viking said so" haha

I do think it’s interesting that the fellowship weren’t able to Ally with Minas Tirith/ Rohan. Though if Gandalf the White is in the Minas Tirith list it’s not so bad.

the inclusion of the characters into other lists makes it a non issue

It also makes sense because the Fellowship was broken by the time they arrived in Minas Tirith / Rohan - it's "historically accurate" in that the Fellowship only existed at a very specific time in a very specific part of Middle Earth (lasting a few months and travelling between Rivendell and Amon Hen - and that's it). If you want to house rule your own scenarios you still can - but my understanding of the ally matrix is to help guide players in grounding their own games into the setting and established time lines. Ideally I think they should also have an "armies that can't fight each other" chart to double down on the idea. But I still kind of understand where you're coming from - it means if you want to run a campaign around an alternate path for the Fellowship (i.e passing through Rohan) you also need to decide where they fit on the Matrix for combined list purposes.

Thanks for the videos they have been really helpful in getting to grips with the new rules! I just wanted to check, has transfix/immobilise changed at all or does it still half the affected models fight and attack? I don't think you mentioned it but I might have just missed it. Thanks again.

Shatter is not the same, it now can't shatter natural weapons like claws, ... neither can it destroy staffs of power. In addition, it can only destroy 1 thing, not all equipment. :)

Would i be able to take shields, bows, or other weapons for the crew of a siege machine. (I.e. bows with my avenger bolt thrower)? If so would this be considered op or against the spirit of the game?

Have not checked yet but probably not. Siege Crew are set members of a siege engine and should therefore have a set of equipment. They have not had options other than upgrades to the engine itself
