I wish I had a radar to show me people who need the help. It’s easy to know the homeless people. I always give $20 to them. Some people say, aren’t you worried they just buy alcohol with it? My response is that it is not my place to judge another human being. Whatever they need to get through the day, and mostly the money I donate is done around lunch or after work while walking to my car, so they’re likely to get several meals from the donation. Life can be very difficult. I can’t change someone’s life with that small donation, but if I can help them get through that day and make it bearable, then I am thrilled to be able to do so.

this is a beautiful gesture. As a Brit, these type of clips leave me wondering how there are so many Americans who are willing to accept this kindness where here in the UK, it would be looked upon in a rather more suspicious manner.
@Livetoeat1712 жыл бұрын
According to a Brit, what is wrong with accepting help from someone; doesn't matter whether it's being helped across the street, holding the door open, changing someone's tire on the side of the road, paying for the car behind you for a coffee, or paying for groceries. We all could use some help and if BRITs can't accept that help, I feel sorry for them.

Years ago, there was a young mother with two small children in front of me in the grocery store check out line. She had a few days worth of groceries on the belt. When she want to pay with her debit card, it was declined due to lack of funds. She immediately began to sob uncontrollably. Through her tears, I could hear her repeatedly asking herself how was she going to feed her kids. I told her to take her groceries as I would pay for them. That was when the tears really began. She moved a few steps away from the counter so I could pay, but could not go any further as she was so overcome with emotions. The cashier was an older woman who came around the counter and hugged the young mother for a few minutes until she collected herself. She turned to thank me, but the words wouldn't come. She mustered the courage to give me a hug, and through that hug I could feel her heart racing and her body still trembling from the emotions of it all. I am pretty sure she could feel the same in me. When our embrace was over, I asked her to wait by the door so I could talk with her. I paid for my groceries while she waited. She told me her ex-husband doesn't pay her any child support and she barely makes enough money to cover her rent and utilities. Knowing that the groceries she had would only last a few days, I told her to meet me in the same spot in two days because I wanted to fill her refrigerator, freezer and pantry. She started to tear up again, at which point I asked her to stop as I didn't want people to think I was being mean to her. I got her to smile and laugh a bit. She met me two days later, and once a week for the next six months thereafter until she landed a better job and was able to fend for herself. Every once in a while, we are in the right time and place where we cross paths with someone who is truly in desperate need. The initial $60 I spent on food for her family was nothing to me, but meant the world to her. The money I spent each week on her groceries barely made a ripple in my life, but was a lifeline to her. This happened 7 years ago, and today she remains one of my closest, dearest friends.

I’m a single mother of two boys, 15 and 12. I have no family or support here at all, and it’s just been the three of us for awhile. Throughout their Christmas break, I have been extraordinarily ill, and have had other, underlying health issues for quite some time. I couldn’t even leave the house for a week because I was so sick, and I finally had to drag myself out so we could go to the grocery store. So the boys and I went to Trader Joe’s. I couldn’t even go in, I was so weak and nauseous, so I sent them in to buy the groceries. Tried to keep it within $100, because that’s all we had (I thought). My oldest texted me in line to let me know we didn’t have enough money, only $25. We had been hit twice for one bill. I tried calling him to tell him never mind, so he didn’t have the embarrassment of sorting through what to keep, but he didn’t pick up. He texted me a minute later to tell me a woman in line was paying for all of it. All $100. I just started sobbing uncontrollably. I was completely in shock. This lady, whom we had never met, had no idea how incredibly perfect that was for us after enduring such miserable holidays. Or maybe she did. She walked quickly past our car right before the boys came out, shortly followed by my two gushing, happy and completely surprised children. They told me they gave her a bunch of hugs in line and thanked her profusely. I stood outside the car, still crying, and waved to her as she drove by to leave. I can’t tell you how bad last year was. But this year started with an angel taking care of us. And I woke up the next day feeling better than I had felt in a very long time. You never know how you can change a person’s life by doing something like this. I hope you all know such compassion from strangers, and will be those compassionate strangers for others as well.

Dhiraj K Pradhan I pray everything gets better for you soon. Little did I know when I wrote this a year ago, how difficult 2020 would be for so many people. Take care and God bless you and yours!

I use to do this, but kind of slowed down just a bit due to being cursed out by individuals not wanting their things paid for. I’m not sure if they respond that way due to me being a male or my race. Nonetheless, I’m just more careful and try to choose wisely who I decide to help, but in the end I did not allow them to change my heart, nor my character. Love this so much! ❤️
