This footage is great. Names and faces that inspired me in my youth. These dumb were fantastic. The size and symmetry still knock my sox off. None of this blob and cut for them. I still have a few of those old magazines that I found in the back of my parents garage. Thanks!

Dave Draper is one of my heroes. I was super fortunate to meet him and work out in his Santa Cruz gym in the early 2000s. Even at 60+, his form and his intensity was on an entirely different level from the rest of us. I've never seen a video of him onstage from back in the day. I'm in tears right now, remembering this great man who passed away just a few short weeks ago. So many YT videos are diminished by the voice-overs of the posters. This is an exception. Your respect and knowledge added greatly. I feel the same as you do, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your presentation of this precious bit of bodybuilding history.

I think Dave is one of the greatest posers that's never talked about. So smooth and eloquent, and always hits his pose with the same precision over and over.

@@STGStrengthandPower I don't know how you got ahold of this footage and others, but I'm grateful because Dave Draper sightings are rarer than bigfoot. I really think he was unstoppable in the mid-1960's when he leaned out. Absolutely phenomenal.

The main theme of bodybuilding over time was, in my opinion, this: The bodybuilders of my era (early~mid 60's) were relatively few and far between.. one rarely saw a bodybuilder on the streets (including non~contest bodybuilders). What made bodybuilders then stand out was their comparison with ordinary physiques~and since there were not many bodybuilders around then walking the streets, they were not hard to recognize. There were just a handful of gyms~the local YMCA was probably the most prevalent. There were also many "home gyms" as well. Non~contest bodybuilders also stood out as exceptional. But then bodybuilding turned into bodybuilders comparing themselves with other bodybuilders, which led to the proliferation of gyms, contests, and larger and larger size, making the professional bodybuilders of my era look less and less developed~not to mention the "ordinary" bodybuilders who lost their place as standouts from the ordinary~indeed~THEY became the new "ordinary"! There were however, a lot of "physique" magazine's that were not aimed at showing the professional contest winners but just young guys with good physiques often nude or wearing what looked like a "g~string". I remember the few real bodybuilding mags: Mr America, Mr Universe (the top shelf of bodybuilders), and Strength and Health. Those three cost then about 35 cents. Not sure if Dan Laurie had his own mag, but he did occasionally appear in the Weider mags of that era.

I’m pretty sure Dave Draper says that he didn’t start using steroids until after this took place. So according to him, he was natural here, if he’s telling the truth that’s really impressive
@porcupinecraig10 ай бұрын
Yeah right. Yorton insisted he was natural too. And so did Bill Pearl. But many of Pearl's friends said that he was using, but just didnt want tp influence kids to use. Lame excuse. But there are still people today who want to believe in the Easter Bunny.

Bodybuilders in the 1960's were all influenced from and achieving Power and Strength. The key element back then, was to look and aquire as much Ruggedness as Humanly possible. Everyone, in the 1960's respected Bodybuilders, and the Muscle bound men, who personified their appearances, in possession, Power, Muscle and Strength. David Draper, Reg Park, Steve Reeves, Bill Pearl, Sergio Oliva, John Grimeck, Larry Scott, Clancy Ross, were all the perfect examples of Muscle, Power, and Strength, with all having the brain strength, which is also a Muscle, that is developed through being fit. The 1960's were the glorious Golden Age Era. NEVER, to Ever Return, to it's former Glory.

Excellent job on this video. I like the way that you slowed the speed down. When you mentioned the seminar where the bodybuilder said that "This is not a posing exhibition " it reminded me of a seminar that I attended in Toronto Ontario Canada. One of the three top bodybuilders there was asked by an audience member to show his arms he replied "This is not a posing exhibition ".

No doubt, the vast majority of people would say Dave Draper has a more pleasing physique than any current Olympia competitor today. Shawn Roden, 2018 Mr. Olympia,, died a few days ago at just 46 years old while Draper is still training at 79 years old. Pro bodybuilding has become such a joke; nothing but a bunch of drug addicts seeing who can mix up the most potent batch of chemicals.

Back then it was class,healthy,beautiful and ladies and gentlemen. Now they all look unattractive,immature and when they pose the expression on their faces looks like they got a stick up their you know what. It’s a mess. Now they all look talk and act like bullies. Back then they looked like gentlemen who had a sense of right and wrong and a kid could look up to them and hope that someday they will be like that to.
