I was there w my Dad at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.I still remember when Larry Scott came out all you heard was Larry,Larry Larry what a magical moment!Met Larry again in his mid 60s still had that peak into his early 70s.Became friends w Larry met him and his lovely wife over the years and talked on the phone at least twice a week.Larry the Legend brought down the house!

I trained in Judo next to the Olympia Gym on Fresh Pond Rd. I later trained at the Olympia Gym. Eddie Giuliani trained there along a lot of other East Cost Bodybuilders. I live in Costa Rica now still train. Bodybuilding and Martial Arts were my passion. So when the Olympia came to Brooklyn Academy of Music I asked my father to please take me. I have met and been friends with many famous Body Builders. I joined the US Military in 66.Moved to Miami when I returned. I owned 2 Gyms in Fl. I will never forget that Magical night of the Olympia.

I met Mr. Scott in Scotland many years ago. A fine gentleman, friendly and helpful. I will never forget seeing him walk out of the warm up room before going on stage to give a posing display. Absolutely incredible looking !! A real privilege to see this champion.

I was there too with my best friend. We were young bodybuilders and this was very exciting. After the show a bunch of us hung out at the side exit and Larry came out. out like a rock star.

I saw Larry Scott guest pose at the Mr. Golorado contest just before he won his first olympiia. He was massive and cut and reminded one of a Greek god come to earth. Unbelievable size and shape. He made all of the contestants for the Mr. Colorado and Junior Colorado contest look small. He showed all of us that we had a long way to go before we could compete with the likes of him. He had to do an oncore and fans sill requested another. To me he was the best I ever saw live.. Nobody on earth could have beaten him at that time. All of us were in total awe at that time.

Saw Larry Scott guest pose at either a Mr. Michigan or Mr. Great Lakes contest in the 70's. It was at the Redford Theater In Redford, Mi. When he took the stage and hit that double bicep the audience just gasped. It was unbelievable...

Yeah, watching this I was starting to wonder how Larry had won? But then seeing him - holy cow! He was really thickly muscled. The Phil Heath of his day! A small narrow frame, but so much huge round muscle - everywhere - that he can't be denied!! Very impressed.

Thank you. I was too young to see Scott at his best but I saw him when he guest posed at the 1975 IFBB Mr America at MSG. He was 15 pounds lighter than in your film but he was still impressive. I think the Golden Age was the best era for bodybuilding.

Some of these guys were fucking massive. Absolute beasts. For 1965 these guys were way ahead of their time. They are better than today's top pros when you realise they were on average taking 90 percent less PEDs.

You captured a moment in bodybuilding history that we could only see in picture stills. Larry was my favorite but by god look at that Dave Draper. Larry has that special quality that reminds me of John F Kennedy as a bodybuilder. When I would look at the pictures when I was a kid the first thing that would come to my mind was health of mind and body and with the bodybuilders of today that’s the last thing that comes to mind, can you imagine if they made a pumping iron documentary back then.

I was there that night with my best friend. Aside from aspects of the event itself, I remember the feeling. Bodybuilding was something that dominated our thoughts and feelings. So to be there that night and see top flight bodybuilders, not in a magazine but right in front of us was VERY exciting.

I think the movie Maynard was in was The Deep. Definitely Zane in the one shot. Watch the way he holds his thumb in the biceps shot. Poole should not have felt bad. Had he had Scott's thickness at his height he would have won. Scott was just so thick! Great, great video, thanks for sharing!

The movie with Earl Maynard and the outboard motor was "The Deep" from 1977 (Donna Summer doing the theme song "Down Deep Inside") with Nick Nolte, Jacqueline Bisset (wet T-shirt diving!), and the great Limey himself, Robert Shaw in his follow-up to "Jaws". This was 1965, To even have this film footage available of the iconic era of Bodybuilding in display, is beyond belief. In 1965 Bodybuilder were regarded as being Muscle bound. Everyone looked at Bodybuilder with Respect. People in that era, all Respected Strength, Power, and Muscle. It was the greatest time to be a Bodybuilder. At that time, The Hercules Film industry, gave Bodybuilders Prestige and Respect. STEVE REEVES influence, gave all Bodybuilders that Hollywood Persona of being Special. The 20" Biceps, was what the Public was seeking to see. Larry Scott was the first, with Cannonbal Biceps, Strength, Power, and Male Ruggedness, became the new Standard looks. Sergio Oliva, was the King of that Persona, that everyone admired and Respected.

We were backstage with all these amazing athletes as they pumped up and oiled themselves. I was only 8 when this took place so I had to wait a few years to see it in magazines. I believe it was Boys Life magazine that had a Joe Weider add with 5 or 6 of these guys in a right arm flex, one picture above the other. One look at Larry Scott's 20" arm and I had to have the Home Workout Course. Went on to get all Larry Scott's courses along with others. Never looked close to these guys but they've had me working out till today. They were inspiring!

Wow...I have so many questions...very cool ! Maynard was in " The deep " Nick Nolte and Lou gossett jr were in that. He fought Robert Tessier in that awesome out board motor battle. Tessier was another muscular guy who usually had a shaved head and played allot of baddies. In the deep he had hair and was a good guy. I remember seeing Earl in another flick ,"Mandingo" in which he played a slave that fought a gruesome battle with another slave played by legendary heavy weight boxer Ken Norton.

Tessier had a notable role in Hard Times, fighting Charles Bronson. I think Tessier was Canadian .

Hard times is my favorite Bronson movie. Although slimmer...Bronson was surprisingly well built. Yes I loved Tessiers role in that. He was also part Native Indian. Saw him play the Villinous Magua in a B movie version of Last of the Mohicans

I remember the first time I saw Larry Scott . I had heard about him but his time had passed. I thought he’d be good but not up to the standards of the 70’s era. Then I got a mag from a mentor and he said check this. W. O. W he was a king ! Man what lines, with mass and cuts and posing . Sergio Oliva did have the greatest genetics of the Golden Era period, - That incredible 28 inch waist, fantastic shoulders and Incredible legs! - That 1972 Victory pose aways defined the meaning of Bodybuilding. Even Boyer Coe said that in an Interview!

Scott got next to nothing for his two Olympia victories. The Weiders suck all the money out of the sport for themselves and put almost nothing back in. Just the opposite of what Deane Beman did for golf and Jack Kramer did for tennis.

When I got my weights in 1965 included was Weider mag ,routines and Larry Scott was at top. His muscle density in this film was much higher than could be seen in mag pictures. Sadly he retired as he had to make a living no $ then allowing Sergio & Arnold to take over.

my dad worked for Nautilus and though he never met him, he always said Larry was his favorite bodybuilder, his posing was tremendous from what I can see, equaled only by Makkawy (both trained by Gironda). Just curious here, Scott in his prime and Mike Mentzer in his prime were about the same height and weight, head to head in their prime who do you think wins?

i have the book you were talking about 'Muscle Wars' by Rick Wayne. i thought it would have more juicy details about behind the scenes stuff but he plays it pretty safe and doesn't really offend anyone. you get the sense reading the book that he could have said a lot more. this began to annoy me and eventually started to bore me. i remember seeing more interesting writing from him in the magazines. you can get the book on amazon

Personally, I like Draper more. Larry was mostly just big arms and he was also pretty smooth, and his structure was too narrow. And frankly, some of the black guys looked like they were from newer generation of BB compared to Larry...Perhaps one of those guys should have won.
