Nice! In a chartreuse back and white belly this is the exact favorite lure I make here in Brazil for Peacock Bass! But I don't reel it slowly, I give it hard and fast twitches, making it swim as a small baitfish that is running away Awesome mold, congratulations! Of all the videos I've seen, your method of making the holes is the one I'm using if I ever step into it!

That was great, I really enjoyed it. I loved when you said fine sandpaper and said 400 grit. I use 400 as a finish on the wood, I sand my primer with 600 on the first coat then add another coat ( I dip though) then sand that with either 1000 or 1500 to get it deadly smooth. I know its overkill but the finish is irresistible Haha. I look forward to watching the rest of your videos, have a great day :)

Awesome little lures. I love when woodworkers refer to 400 grit as really fine (obviously it is as far as general use goes) and I'm sitting here looking at the 3000 grit paper I use on knives and axes when sharpening and that's not even the final finish.. my forearm aches just thinking about it haha

Hello! Great job! I'm new to the game and you help a lot! Well, I have a problem you might help me solve it. I do pretty well in minnows, walk the dog and top water lures. But when it comes to sinking pencils I have a problem. They just don't swim right. They spin a lot and swim most like a metal jig. I add a lip and they swim perfectly! But without a lip they just don't swim! I guess there's something I'm doing wrong but I don't know what. Anyway, thanks for your videos, they are great!
@zimmtex2 жыл бұрын
Welcome to lure making! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I've actually never made a sinking pencil, but I'd imagine the problem is either weight placement or head design (the head doesn't cause enough turbulence). To me, sinking lures are the most difficult which is why they are so satisfying when you get them right. Wish I had more insight for you. When I'm having trouble, I make small adjustments to get it working. Sometimes the answer is very subtle. Good luck to you on your lure making journey!

Great video and the action of that epoxy lure looks actually really good ( paintjob ofc too). After clearcoating my lures I always have some resin left, this might be the solution for it. I have a question about what did u mix in the epoxy resin bfr pouring it ? baking soda ? Keep up ur good work ! and greetings from germany
@zimmtex2 жыл бұрын
Willkommen! The powder I mix with the epoxy is called glass microspheres. They are tiny balloons that make the resin float. I am actually working on a more detailed video about lure molding and casting right now. Thank you for watching and commenting.

I've been reading through comments because I know this has been asked more recently but are you still finding 50 PSI mostly fine with Createx paints and .3 needle? Thanks man! Looking forward to your shad glide video 🤙🏼
@chrisgooden44272 жыл бұрын
Also while I got you, what size eyes are you using on the shad? Trying to decide between 6 or 9 mm
@zimmtex2 жыл бұрын
(50psi/ 0.3mm needle/ Createx) is my setup for the Master Airbrush. However, I recently got an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS with a 0.35mm needle that I have been running at 30psi. Thanks for your question and support!
@zimmtex2 жыл бұрын
I am using 10mm Fish Skull, Living Eyes- Ice. The trick is getting the right size to correspond to your drill bit which is most likely in imperial units. So if you're using a 3/8" bit, I would go with 9mm eyes. I didn't think that through and had to bump up to a 1/2" bit which leaves quite a bit of space around the eye socket. It worked out, but I would have done it differently.
@chrisgooden44272 жыл бұрын
Okay I just got the same eclipse and most of what I've read said 30 too. I guess .5 mm is a big deal when you're talking about a very small orifice anyway. Thanks! Lol. For what it's worth you can use almost any drill bit and just drill in reverse so the bit doesn't bite and you won't chip the wood or go too deep. It's how I prefer to do eyes because there's a lot more control with it boring slowly

If you really want to make lures, you can start very small carving whatever wood you can find for almost nothing. You could also re-paint old lures or even paint blanks. If not, that's okay too.

People never address resin baits needing so much time for all vaporers to release. I’m having trouble with paint adhering to my resin bait

Sorry to hear that. I recently switched to corn starch instead of mold release and I also wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to give me a better bond.
