Bubba man...I can't tell you how much your videos help me. I just got into welding at school and I love it. Just sucks that the teachers always rushing because he has so many people to deal with. That's why videos at a calm pace like this help out so much!

6013 rods are ok for maintenance repairs ,small projects and on the farm. You wont find 6013 rods used on any serious structural steel project or on code welds. Personally, I almost never use them. In fact the only times I have used 6013 in the last 30 years was to teach padding beads to beginners.

This is THE welding video in KZbin which taught the beginner of me to use a higher AMP and keep a short arc. I noticed 7018 is butter smooth like this, even if it touches the plate. Now 'it clicked' for me after couple of days of unsuccessful attempts to weld.

I did similar with driving an excavator and a haul truck, half buckets real slow, dig bottom all over the show then cut it straight and true with full buckets good and fast, drove the haul truck slow and backed it up all over the show and rolled the body on the tip then drove fast and smooth fast cycles and hit the bucket line bang on every load, asked the foreman whether he wanted to pay £8/hr or £14, ended up on a dozer on £16/hr with a van and a fuel card for them, turns out he liked the fact I could drive all their plant better than any of the other guys who only drove one piece of plant.

Thanks for your reply. Sure, I work on light constructions like frames from tubes with a wall about 1 mm. A question is actually about to compare rutile or low-hydrogen basic coatings of the electrodes. 7014 or 7024 vs. 7018. Even on structural projects someone has to restart arc by a cold rod. Rutile electrodes make easy restart and produce low toxic fumes. It also depends on producer. Kobe is superior to Yawata despite these are both Japanese. MIG does better job for me but I just love MMA.

4G bevel plate is tough for me.. I have no problem with the hot pass and fill.. its just the cap that gets me.. My hands are somewhat shaky from military service, so its tough to get a uniform bead/cap from end to end.. I use the stinger cable as a sling so I can cradle my lead hand.. is there any way i can stabilize my lead hand just a little more? Please help if you can.. thanks
@q12x12 жыл бұрын
My slag, I always chop it off with hammer... because its so thick (maybe 1mm) and very hard to break without it, + it looks very similar with the finishing welding (silver_ish and a bit darker). I chop it hard and in the final it brakes like a egg shell. But is very tricky for the eye and I miss it sometimes... brushing or scratching has no effect on it. I use a 6013 rod stick with an inverter with 200 max Amp. I always use its max 190 /195 Amp because if its too low, it stick often.
@macca958711 жыл бұрын
The main reason they use MMA on site is because it requires no shielding gas due to the electrode having a coating which when heated acts as a inert gas,and the second reason is because because the welds are more flexible. Im only n apprentice but i'm really good at MIG and TIG and pretty good at stick but we dont use it at our place apart from some filtering baskets

in mi first class of welding we used 6013 on used metal parts just to get familiar using a stick i have seen many videos that will help me on next clases but .. i notice that my weldings were a litle thick.. that its normal? or it should be almost like the surface that im soldering? my prof told me that I needed a bit more of practice but i have my doubts,, the slag came out pretty easily and i had sompe problems starting the arc any sugestion?

My beads like amazing 55% and 45% strike marks, rod sticks, can't even get a good arc distance. I have done that on a t-weld. Done a great bead on one side. Go to the next and it just seems to be made out of another type of metal.

stick is much hotter than normal mig, so if you are welding thick steal get a stik welder you will get proper penetration instead of getting cold fusion. if your welding thinner steel then go for a normal mig. I recommend getting a garage TIG/Stick machine from miller, its not that powerful bit it can work

There is some debate that using a auto darkening helmet can ruin your vision somewhat if you weld full time for many years. The helmets don't darken for a extremely small fraction of a second, in which your eyes are getting flashed by the arc. Everyone agrees that it is not a major problem. It's just something to think about.

i'm no expert but it's my understanding that running too hot will make the slag hard to chip off. 6013 slag should chip off real well. perhaps if you steady your hand more you won't stick the rod as often.

QUESTION ! I have some weird bead behaviour with stick welding. When i try to weld e.x. butt joints or a T joint, the bead looks ok when welding, but upon removing the slug, the metal hasnt joined the two halves-ends. But instead it has made two seperate metal deposition beads in each edge without being joined together! Whats the catch here ? When i try pumping more amps, holes are immenant !

I think that E 6013 would give better results. Easy start, a stable arc with low or no spattering, easy slag removal. Igniting and reigniting of the arc with 7018 sucks, especially restart with a cold electrode. Well, it is just my opinion and I am not a professional. I am hobbyist and having fun to work with Japanese sticks RB-26 and Kobe-30 from Kobe, they are below $3 per kilo in Thailand. Kobe E308 for stainless are simply fantastic electrodes but for $13/kilo. Is anybody tried E 7024?
