I have the same issue as one of the questioners with small hands and I put the capo on the first fret. But I prefer crossover guitars with a radiused 48 mm nut width and a cut away, so that I can access the 13 fret without a problem. The trick is to tune down a half step, but the questioner probably knows this. It can effect the intonation slightly, but it makes the guitar much more accessible.

Tatyana, I wonder if sometime you could go through Villa-Lobos's suite Populaire Brasilienne, especially the Mazurkao-Choro and the Gavotte-Choro, and explain some of the difficult fingerings and the harmonic notes that are not marked clearly, but apparently meant to be guessed at?

Sometimes if I am ambitious about playing a piece that is quite difficult ( at a higher level of difficulty than I can sight read or even play on “ third attempt “ perhaps ) I will attack the piece from different angles, like memorizing from back to front or very carefully harmonically analyzing the counterpoint or compositional structure. If I work quite hard at this, I get closer over time, but I start to lose my original love of the piece, until I sort of start to dislike the piece; it is “ defeating me “ . I’m sure this is common. There seems to be some element of what is called “ sleep learning “ that occurs over time. New neural pathways are formed in the brain, but not “ on the first, or even tenth day “. Some different Baroque pieces for instance, can only be assimilated after years of practice. When I reawaken a piece that I have “ put down “ it seems that I’m not technically as good at it right away, but I’m not as beat up about it, and I like it again, as I first did, so I can start anew and perhaps finally “get it “. Does any of this sound familiar to you? I know when you started Tarrega piece, you liked it, but over time, it is way less emotionally attractive to the performer, but perhaps still attractive to the audience. Comprende? Also, finger squeaks can be lessened ( left hand ) by sanding the strings with micro mesh sandpaper or getting strings that are called “ lightly polished “. Thank you in advance.
