Dear Stig.. Think I asked you before but in regards to HSE (health, safety and environment) in your day to day work. How do you prevent long term sickness, what is the common "tear and wear" working at an airport? I suspect walking and standing uprised all day could lead to backpains, footpain etc. Anyway, thought this was an important topic to talk about in a vlog. PS.. Hope you guys are safe in terms of the huge forest fire in LA and you are not personally impacted. As always, thank you for showing your day to day work, very informative and you are a greate teacher to us avio geeks. Greetings from Norway (SAS, Norwegian and NORSE Aviation country)

There are a lot of side effects within Aviation and especially within my line of work where we take precautions to sustain our health. The most common issue is noise, so we wear hearing protection. We also have protective gear such as gloves and masks when we’re working with fluids that can be harmful to us. But overall you have to take care of yourself, exercise diet And maintain a healthy lifestyle.

44:21 Stig, that’s glass beads that’s what makes the paint reflective. I used to do lines, yeah it sounds wrong, anyways the glass beads are the reflective material in paint, epoxy, and thermo-plastic pavement markings, tape is the only thing with it’s reflectivity built in… I could go on for days… Anyways pay attention to the lines on the road on your next drive, I bet they’re not straight, I did my best to make my lines as perfect as I could…

Maintaining the centerline is really just about developing a sight picture. Before I got involved in aviation I was an OTR truck driver so I guess that trained my eye pretty well. You weren't kidding though. Taxiing is tricky at first. I remember my first few flight lessons, weaving around all over the place. Now as I'm building toward my commercial license and making my living by day as a maintainer in a GA shop, it doesn't matter whether I'm taxiing a Skyhawk or a King Air out to the runup pad. Takes practice but it's all about experience. I bet I'd look like an idiot trying to taxi that big iron though!

It’s definitely a lot harder to taxi and steer with the pedals. It’s so much easier with the tiller.

We're safe over here in the valley. I've some friends who have lost a lot, some everything. Thanks for the respite. I have two guesses about that "sand". One is that it makes the paint reflective to headlights or taxi lights. The other is that it makes the paint lines non-skid. Those are off the top of my head with my "just-enough-to-be-dangerous" knowledge of airport operations... Thanks again.

Hi! Thank you for sharing your activities! Every time when I see inside that landing gear bay I have a panic attack. Those pipes, wires and all the mechanical/hydraulic equipment makes me 😰😰😰

It can be intimidating when you’re seeing it for the first time. But you get used to it after a while

We use the shoulder-line rule when taxiing in on center lines too. Very good trick and it usually gets you right on the line.
@StigAviation13 күн бұрын
That’s actually a good method as well

Talking about taxing made me think of the XB70. That plane must have been real fun. The nose gear is sooo far behind the pilots.
@ZaphodHarkonnen15 күн бұрын
Look up interviews and comments from pilots of Concorde. The nosewheel position made taxiing extra fun. Same with the 747 due to the height of the cockpit. But Stig notes that one.

@@ZaphodHarkonnenYeah. Concord is another that must have been fun.

Hey Stig, those are glass beads, they're for reflection of light for visual. Same material is used for lane marking on highway and interstates. Hope you and all your co-workers are safe. Sending positive vibes and prayers.

I wish my last, 5 minute plumbing job, actually took 5 minutes and not 2.5 hours!!
@StigAviation15 күн бұрын
House plumbing is a lot more difficult than airplane plumbing that’s for sure.

Hello Stig Not sure if you got your answer on the sand like substance for the lines on the tarmac. It’s glass beads. That’s what makes the lines reflective at night. They put it on the wet paint so it sticks to it. Also used on roadways. Ryan Tyro

You are right about cars monitoring tire pressure. Since 2007, all new US cars have been required to be equipped with TMPS (Tire Pressure Monitoring Systen)...which are well-known for the sensors konking out and throwing goofy errors 😂

Awesome video as always! We had a nosegear collapse happen on stand at Brussels just a couple of days ago on a TUI 737-700 (OO-JAR). I was actually working on a plane a couple stands over at the time. According to reports there were no faults reported on the flight, no known pilot error and maintenance was not working on the plane at the time. I'd love to know your thoughts on what might have happened here.
@StigAviation14 күн бұрын
Sounds like some kind of a inadvertent nose collapse, might have been due to proximity sensor failure and somebody might have left hydraulics on
