Happy thanks giving Stig! Also, I agree with you on the 757. The amount of money that they lost on the max could’ve easily been used to reboot the 757 program. Nothing else can compare to its performance and versatility

Not throwing shade at schools like NAA and ERAU, I actually got my engineering from ERAU after my FAA/FCC. It seems like the big money schools are set up for the person with no natural born mechanical ability. It blew my mind when my first NAA graduated trainee asked “what is a fadec” 😂

true that the Push-Pull cable on the NG is only on the Right Landing Gear, but deployment of the Ground Spoilers is also enabled by a rod that comes out of the Spoiler Mixer and into the Ground Spoiler Control Valve. When that valve is opened, and the Gr Splr Interlock valve is opened by the push pull cable, hydraulic power is routed to the Ground spoiler actuators to make them raise. The rod from the Spoiler Mixer is driven by cables that come from the Speed Brake Lever in the cockpit. Usually during landing, the pilots use "auto speedbrakes", where upon touchdown, an electric actuator drives the speedbrake lever to the full up position. the electric actuator is driven by a bunch of logic from both the PSEU and Radio Altimeters. Very complicated but redundant system. The Max fly-by-wire is mechanically simplified, but there's a new control box and very complicated logic involved.
@StigAviation13 сағат бұрын
You still need the wheels on ground to get it to work my friend. So it’s a great explanation on something I simplified for all but you didn’t really tell me why it’s only on the right gear on the NG.

Yes the spoiler mixer is a pain to change. Just don forget your rigging pins or you will have a big mess and it will ruin your day. Also if you notice the 777 ailerons have the pretty much the same system as the 727. With the flaps are not extended the Outboard Aileron is locked out meaning it is just part of the wing, but when Flaps are extended, the outboard works with the inboard one. Pretty cool system. Boeing taking some old school designs and putting it on newer planes.

I remember reading somewhere that the 777-300ER tail skid was discontinued from production by Boeing. I think you'll find that the 10 that don't have it are newer than the 10 that do. They replaced it with software that won't allow the pilot to over-rotate. I can't remember the exact figure but I think it saves something like 70kg.

Tail Strike Protection (TSP) logic has been incorporated in the 777 FBW since the -300ER became available. It is available on the 777-200LR as well (despite shorter body); I believe all other models also have it now through the PFCs (200ER, F). The newer -300ER aircraft have the TSP logic ENHANCED and with it came the removal of the tail skid, which saves 300 pounds of aircraft weight besides maintenance costs

My two-seater Light sport aircraft has a tail skid, in my opinion every aircraft should! Only touched the tail gently once, on takeoff, when training, never did that again, realized not a good thing... it happens if not paying attention or if getting complacent or improper training. Flew with a pilot who has every rating in the books, was his multiple engine aircraft, I was flying he was reading a book, asked him what he was reading, showed me the cover it said "Pilots with tens of thousands of hours of flight time who crashed and died"... complacency... should be requirement for pilots to have ADD, attention to detail... and spend a week with a mechanic servicing the plane he flies...

From a distance the way I recognize the 787 is the number of wind screen windows (4 instead of 6) and the variants is the number of windows from the forward cabin door to the number 2 doors in front of the wings. 9 windows its an -8. 9 windows a space then 5 more is a -9 and 10 windows after the space is a -10. Oh, and its really long. lol. Tho some windows are blanked out depending the carrier. We call the triple variants a 4 door (-200) or 5 door ( -300) on each side. Just some fun indicators I use. So why is that happening and how is that being controlled? ( the speed). Is it the GPU? Thanks man always look forward to your vids.

What you’re seeing is simply the engine windmilling. The engines are perfectly balanced, so if there’s a slight gust of wind that engine will simply rotate.

Seeing how Stig knows these aircraft like the back of his hand, I'd love to see a video where a pilot takes him up as co-pilot, I think that might be legal if a post maintenance test flight, would make for super content. The FAA invites pilots to sit next to ATC guys to give them a pilot's perspective, I've done that... and when I did gave the ATC guy an earful. Most pilots, in my opinion, have very little mechanical understanding. I used to fix my own construction heavy equipment on the roadside, so have another viewpoint

HAPPY THANKSGIVING STIG! Wondering if you know Captain Juan BROWNE, Blancolirio KZbin channel, American 777 Pilot who flies the Australian flights quite alot.!? Great guy!!! Your job is like what many others in the Transportation industry must do for safety, and reliability.! Pre trip inspections are mandatory.! I'm sure you must have to record fluids, and assign them to the particular Aircraft. Do you record the info on paper or electronically.? The amount added assigned to the particular number unit.? I know you have to do something to account for fluids missing from the supply tanks. Excessive consumption would show a problem with a system, and a potential failure.! Also, they are making sure you, and others aren't "acquiring" any for personal purposes or use.!😮😉😉🤔🤔😊🥇🙏🙏🙏🙏
@StigAviation3 сағат бұрын
I know of Mr. Browne i’m sure we’ve crossed paths and didn’t even know about it. But yes I do follow him on KZbin, he’s an incredible educator and Pilot. As for fluids, yes we record that digitally as well as in the paper logbook. We input the exact amount we add. If there is an excessive amount that is being serviced then our digital database will catch that and flag it

Hey Stig thank for all the wonderful and educational content! I’m a fresh A&P probably going to start in GA but the big birds fascinate me so much more and I love much more complex systems (I retain information fast and I feel I will get bored in GA) but you’re always learning and I love that! How did you start in the airlines and would you recommend that path? Would you need an apprenticeship first with only having experience in AMT school or can you get hired right away as an A&P for a major?

It’s a good thing that you’re getting experience in general Aviation but I would highly recommend that you put your application in for the major airlines. Nowadays the major airlines are very desperate for technicians, they are even taking Mechanic straight out of school. I recommend you apply either to the majors or regionals, or even helicopters and my suggestion is to steer away From general Aviation.

@ Thank you so much for your advice! My plan with GA was to start my own mobile LLC if I wasn’t at a major, what are your reasons for steering away from GA?

@ because I enjoy working on jets, I feel like GA is like being a car mechanic. You’re still working on Pistons and propellers. Which there’s nothing wrong with that, a lot of people are very successful working in GA, some even get there IA license which is a big thing in general Aviation but personally for me I want to work on big jets now if you’re starting your own business that’s a whole different thing, don’t listen to me if that’s what you want to do. Follow your own dreams and I hope you are successful

I remember years ago AA were trying to rely on shore power and air conditioning as much as possible, meaning they could leave the APU off while at the gate... But I don't really see that happening so much anymore. Were the cost savings not worth it or something? Even an APU is a heavy drinker. Or maybe it was just too much extra labor and time to do all the connections? Do you have any insight on that? (BTW, again, I love love love these videos)

They very much still do that, they try to use jet Bridge power and preconditioned air when possible. But sometimes these flights come in on a very quick turnaround, so they just keep everything running

You are definitely a professional - - when you take pride in wiping down an access panel after you finish servicing the engine oil - - these are the little things that only professionals do automatically as a habit-and I am loving it.🫡🫡🫡
