This is the saw that I diagnossed in this video. • Diagnosing an 026 That... The owner of the saw decided to rebuild it with a new Hyway piston and cylinder, Walbro carb kit, and Stihl circlips, piston pin bearing, and fuel line.

Not sure why you do not take the time to clean the saw before working on it ? I was always told a clean mechanic make a better mechanic. I hope you would not do surgery in a dirty environment like you do on you tools .

I scrapped and blew off what I could. The inside of the crank case was clean, and so was the area were the cylinder bolts on. If I would have tried to clean it with the cylinder off, debris would have fallen in the crank case.

Love seeing an old soldier put back on the front line. I've rebuilt an old 550xp that's turning out to be a real turd. Soon as I get it lined out I'm gonna sell it to buy me another small stihl.

Hey brother, great video. I have a regular Stihl 026 that I've had a very long time. It is tired, but excellent shape still. To the point: Can I put a 026 PRO cylinder and piston on my non 026? Is there 2 different cylinders, 44 & 44.7 i believe & will they interchange??
@TractorTech2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Why do you say your saw is tired? Have you checked compression? If the computer is low, and the cylinder looks good you can throw a piston in it and go. Stihl or meteor would be the way to go. The OEM cylinder the best and will make the most power. Yes a 44.7mm cylinder will fit an 026. Don't expect to see power increase. A walbro wt194 helps these saws. Also a free flowing muffler helps. Some have very restrictive mufflers. The saw in the video had a wt194 carb and good factory muffler. It ran good with the aftermarket cylinder.

@@TractorTech Thanks fir the info & the time to send me a reponse! I will be getting a deco cylinder. It does need rings it has been a very long time & I dont want to grenade it. I was asking about the decompression cylinder, because I have 2 bad elbows hence the light 026 that does pretty much anything. This 026 is a beast even needing rings, must be well over 150 even with alot of use on the rings. It literally is equal pull or even harder than the 044 I tried. Yes my saw had alot of custom work bottom/top end, and whatever was done made the compression insane, but it does hold a screaming high revving powerband and it cuts super fast..

I've seen quite a few aftermarket piston/cylinder sets for these saws. The first Hyway I bought was a dog -- it ran worse than a dog. I do hope that your rebuild came out well.

I did one on an 024S. It was a dog at first. I ran a gallon of gas through it and the compression still wasn't great. I did a base gasket delete and got it to 150. I bought an OEM piston for it , and checked the compression before I was going to tear it down. I forget what it was, but It was up good. The saw never had any power. I put a WT194 carb on it and it helped a lot. The quality of the cylidner was decent so that is why I went with it for this 026. This 026 ran great, not much off a 261. It had a WT194 carb, and a good open factory muffler. The rings that come with the Hyway pistons are not as hard/ brittle as they were a few years ago. The guy that owns the 026 is very happy with it. He said it runs like a new saw.

What caused the old one to go bad? Where did your audio go in the end, it dropped out for about 30 seconds in the end?
@TractorTech4 жыл бұрын
A clogged spark arrestor, and he switch to synthetic oil and it ate some carbon loose and busted the piston. I forgot to turn the mic on at the end, and I was going to put music over that part but I forgot.

Which replacement piston and cylinder do you recommend (other than the Stihl)?

I used a hyway in this one. It had really good power.

No mention of what side the rings are installed? The dots
@TractorTech3 жыл бұрын
The rings are curved on the end. they curve to go under the pin on the piston.
