STIHL 220T First Impression
Going over the new Stihl MSA 220T battery powered chainsaw. I had High hopes for this battery powered chainsaw but so far with the 300s battery it is not living up to the hype. I will make a new video when i am able to get a 500s battery!!!

Enjoyed the video. I run an Echo 2500 and love it. It's meant to be a limbing saw. It is light and well balanced....a joy to use. I limb all day, cutting up to 8-9" wood, no problem. I think you're expecting too much from the Stihl. No matter what they say, it's not equal to a 201. I'm sure it would be a fine limbing saw with lighter battery. My echo is not as powerful as the Husky or Stihl, but it is lighter and better balanced (12" bar). I rarely go to my second battery. Nice.

Yes, maybe I did expect too much, but it seems weaker than the Milwaukee saw i got right now. They should have just made a lighter saw to suit a different market. At least the echo has that going for it, Thanks for watching. Be safe 🤙

its a climbing saw ment for pruning hence a 12inch bar only! not ment for logging! ffs as an ex climber in the UK I would have loved this saw on my day.

Ya, it ain't that great for climbing either, I'd way rather the 2511t. It could be the battery as well, though. I'm gonna do another video when I get the 500s battery's, but in my opinion, the power to weight ratio is terrible

I cheaped out and got the Echo battery saw -- doesn't seem as gourmet but I still like running it on smaller jobs. Cool to see your thoughts man

@@PoplarMechanic I have the 220C in the 2 hands configuration and I also have 4 AP500S batteries but I only use the AP500S if I run out of the AP300S batteries, to me the 220C feels better balanced with AP300S. Normaly the AP500S I use themes on the MSA300 and on the Trimmer 135.

@poplarmechanic. Hey man, too bad Stihl and Husky are having such a hard time with supply chain issues. We switched to the Echo top handle battery saw last spring and won’t look back. They had a promotion on so it came with a second free battery, which is essential for any battery tool. Anyhow it has great ergonomics, a translucent oil tank so you can visually check it, adjustable oiler, plus a good fastener for your lanyard. It’s a compact design with way better power than the husky or Stihls for the weight. Hope you can try one. If you’ll be coming to cow town, give me a heads up, like to meet you and I’ll get some demo saws for you to check out plus show you my shop. Take care man.

Hey man, I appreciate the input. The light chainsaw at least serves a purpose. There is no point in me carrying the extra weight if I'm not going to be able to cut fast and efficiently through big wood. Also, I will definitely give you a shout when I head to calgary, we go there quite frequently, looking forward to trying the echo and seeing your shop. Thanks, man 🫡

The way you can't use the throttle without pressing that button everytime looks annoying. Why they didn't do it like the husky where it's like a normal saw I don't understand.

@@PoplarMechanic imagine peeling a branch in, and then you go to severe it off but you've waited beyond the few seconds and as you go to severe it...the saw is off. Just seems like poor thinking. I'm a big fan of the husky 540i 👍

I think the 500s battery helps but also found when you tighten the captive nut it also makes chain even tighter… so you have to leave chain a little loose to compensate for when you tighten the captive nut

I never run with one of thoes but I think I with prefer my 161T, and if on top of a tree I use one AP200. This model and and using one AP300S sure with be heavy for one hand use. To use on the ground then I use the MSA300 or the 220C two hands regular model much more handy and easier to use.

The AP500S battery will give you 40% more cutting time, it does not increase the power of the motor, it increases cutting time only, hope that helps,

I appreciate that. I've moved on from this, and I am going to get the Milwaukee top handle soon. I put a smaller bar on the stihl, and it is OK, but it's still not very good imo.

I hear you, good luck with Milwaukee, l run a 12 inch B&C on MSA 220 TCO, for medium pruning work, love the no idle noise convenience, it’s really not on par with MS 201 TCM, it’s closer to MS 194 TC in my opinion, l do love it though for that specific purpose, l have two AP300S batteries on hand, gets through a fair share of work in fairness, greetings from Ireland !!!

I read somewhere that the 500s will last longer but not increase power. Is it true that the 220t series should not be used at ground level? For ground level I believe the 220c is recommended.

A 16" is too much bar for this saw. Put a 12" on it and it will suit it much better. This saw is for pruning or blocking down small to medium stems. Don't expect it to do something is isn't designed to do. Battery tools definitely have a place in our industry.

@@PoplarMechanic Good man, you were trying to make an apples v oranges comparison. Battery gear definitely has its advantages over petrol. One can start earlier in the morning in a residential area. There's very little maintenance, no pull starting in the tree and no migraines at the end of a Day after breathing in two stroke fumes all Day. Battery kit isn't there to compete with petrol kit. They are meant to compliment one another. You match the kit to the job, not the other way around. I admire your work Sir and you have a great channel. God bless, mind yourself up there, 👍💪💪🪓🌲🇨🇦🇮🇪
