Thanks man! Couldn’t get it started all summer and just a quick little clean up did the trick, started easy. I’m a 100% Novice to any engine work so this was great! Thanks!!!

Glad it helped!! Make sure to winterize it before it sits all winter so it can start right up next season.

Good job on the video. My really old BG85 gradually stopped running earlier this year, and now I'm using your video to repair it. A new plug, carb, and fuel filter will hopefully do the trick. Thanks.

Great video I have learned from other's on KZbin that are small engine mechanics for years that all I use in my small engines is the echo red armour oil in all my small engine equipment and it has fixed the build up on my spark arrestor i get in my Stihl blower and weedeater without taking it out and replacing it or burning it with a propane torch thank again

I just purchased a used BG85 for an awesome price...$30 It starts and runs great but the choke lever is loose. I believe the metal retaining washer (whatever you call it) needs to be adjusted or replaced. I didn't know the tip about Craftsman screwdrivers and the wrench or that there is a special Stihl spark-plug socket. Using a brass brush to clean the spark plug is a good tip as well. I usually just buy an new one for a few bucks but sometimes you need to get it done now and no parts are available. At 9:52, you say .02 inches equates to .05mm...actually .02"=.5mm Just trying to help. Excellent video!

I did exactly as is shown in this video. I think what ultimately fixed mine was the carburetor settings provided at the end of the video. Well done!

WD-40 will do as a solvent in a pinch but will leave a film when dried-up which is not good in carb passages and on gaskets. Make sure you run your equipment after repair so as to wash it down. You are better off with carb cleaner or even rubbing alcool (preferably 99% isopropyl concentration) as it will evaporate and leave no residue. Regards !
@learnsavediy Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Good advice that carb cleaner is best option but WD40 will work; just make sure to run it soon after.

Awesome!!! So glad to hear it worked. Out of curiosity, did you use WD-40 to clean the carb? I am surprised how much that thing can do!

I have a BG 65C that I got used. All the sudden it won't fire up..I put a new service kit on it and it ran ok for a couple weeks. Now it spits gas out the exhaust when I try to crank it.. Any ideas? Carb stuck open?
@learnsavediy Жыл бұрын
Try adjusting your carb. I’m guessing it probably is stuck.

Il y a un problème quand même , en tirant starter fermé elle doit donner un signe , dès qu'elle pète starter fermé , il faut enlever le starter et ça doit démarré au bout de 2 lancer

That's identical to mine. Rebuilt the carb, new fuel lines. I'm not novice to small engines, especially two strokes. I cannot figure out why it will prime then lose its prime once started.
@jacobhasting8600 Жыл бұрын
I'm having the exact same problem with loosing the prime. My blower will start but will only run if I have the throttle wide open, otherwise it dies. Are you having that same issue?

Mine too. I'm actually missing that heat shield looking thing and both black gaskets
@pantherplatform Жыл бұрын
@@jacobhasting8600 I'd say it's been taken apart before. I finally figured out why mine wasn't priming. The little metal ball pressed into the plastic primer assembly was leaking air.

You can try using this (www.diyspareparts.com/parts/stihl/diagrams/bg-85-c) or calling Stihl to get the part number and ordering through Stihl, Amazon, or eBay.

How are the internals of the carb?
@mikeschoolcraft21 Жыл бұрын
Do not store it in any position other than the way it was intended. My wife stored mine standing up and the cylinder filled up with gas and locked it up.

Great tip. Thanks!
@chas1617 Жыл бұрын
Just replace the carburetor, they are not that expensive. Also make sure you have fresh gas.

My Stihl BG 85 has a ZAMA Carburetor, C1Q-S68B. As of this posting the Stihl rebuild kit, RB-99, is $12.94, beating the price of the Chinese knock-offs, they being around $30. Because I like to be prepared, I keep spare rebuild kits for my lawn mower, lawn edger, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, string trimmer, and leaf blower.

Il faut condamner la poire d'amorçage sur ces carburateurs , le problème est récurrent sur ces modèles, en condamnant la poire ce carburateur devient hyper fiable

all that work and not put a carb kit in is just dumb and use a Stihl spark plug wrench don't need to remove all that just to change spark pluge
@learnsavediy Жыл бұрын
I get your point. Remember I got this for free so I didn’t have the provided wrench. I’m sure other people may be in the same boat in the future so they too can know how to remove it without the included wrench. And secondly, a new carb kit is $20 (even more if you buy a genuine replacement) so for the $0.03 I paid in WD-40 to have it running for now the last two years makes more sense to me. It’d be different if this was work I was doing for a customer but I’d rather save $20 bucks and have an immediate solution than wait for a new part.
