Thank You - for a $16.00 Amazon, new carb kit - I did it! My BG55, which was bogging down, is now screaming again. Minor high-end screw adjustment - stalls on low a bit so some adjusting is still needed. Otherwise, saved some bucks and learned a lot. As my dad, rest his soul, would say, "Ya ain't gonna learn no younger".

No worries on the gap.this was a great video. I have had a big 55 for at least 12 years. Replaced a bulb and it ran just not right. Had to keep it at full or it would die. Bought a China carb on amazon came with lots of extras , looked good. No good , called a local dealer for Stijl and the shop Mech told me to hook up the fuel lines backwards????? Ifought it it and for a while and went to the shop and bought a still carb. Hooked it up like he said , no same problem. Called back and he said he would have to work on it but they were two weeks out😡 so I look through 4-5 vids till I found yours. Fuel lines were crossed. Strayed and tuned as you described and it screams now! Thank you for your help

Awesome job that’s one of the most honest STIHL videos I’ve ever seen. My BG 55 gives me problems starting however I’ve taking to a STIHL repair service center here in Eldorado and I doubt they replaced those parts you did so I highly praise you on your first video and thanks for being honest.

I appreciate your patient, calm demeanor in explaining the details of the carburetor replacement. Very helpful. While watching your video, I was wondering if one could the fuel lines to the carburetor before sliding it onto the mounting bolts? Or would this not be as good? Many thanks.

I have done it before so I don't think it's that big a deal. Some pieces of equipment make it very difficult to do that and the length of the fuel line matters as well. Thank you for commenting!

Pretty good James! The carb adjustment procedure could have been better. Hard to film all that while making the adjustments and trying to keep it running. Overall nice job! Great refresher before I dive in to doing my SH85 again, it’s been 10 years. No such thing as KZbin when I bought it in the late nineties. No spark arrest or and it revs higher. Wonder if I’ll need to do the cylinder/piston and rings after all these years.

The gap is 0.020 Rubber glove are recommended. Wear safety classes and a face shield before pouring out any fuel left in the tank. Obviously no smoking and keep away from any item the could cause a spark. The linkage is hard to remove from the carburetor. Remove the 3 bolts holding the handle and trigger. After you remove the cover, the plastic part pops right up. This makes it easier to remove the linkage to the carburetor. And, it makes it easier to remove the carburetor itself. Put the fuel lines on the carb before installing it to the engine.

*Exactly what I expected from a brand like Hitachi **Bestfor.Garden** also recommend I’ve only had it a few weeks now, but really happy with what it does. I assume it’s like anything, if you take care of it, it will last along time.*
