Dude! I bought one of those last year. I chopped through 20 acres after we burned it for the crp contract. It took no time at all and I was whacking down trees 6-8” across. Some of the bigger ones maybe had a cut both sides. But to even clear a path to the bottom of the tree was cake. It’s a great machine.

I bought close to 2 acres of forest like you're cutting in this video. In 3 days I have almost fished clearing it to the ground. And I am using only a Stihl FS 56. I make sure my blade is running at full speed before I start my cut on a 5 inch tree. Also, if the tree is leaning to my left, my cut starts on the right. This way the cut opens up, allowing more space for the blade instead of pinching it off. Unfortunately I am using a Stihl 80 tooth wood cutting brush blade because I didn't have time to wait for a Renegade blade to be shipped. The Stihl blades I can buy at Ace Hardware. So far it has taken me 2 blades. I may have to get another one. From what I have seen on KZbin, I could have probably done the whole thing with one Renegade blade that is cheaper than the Stihl blades.

there is a time of the year that when you cut the alders they wont grow back. i remember helping my grandfather cut the alders in the pasture. i wish i could remember exactly. it was the dark of the moon in may or june. our elders had things figured out but were not writen down. i wish i had the knowledge of my passed elders.

first person on youtube ive seen use the saw and blade combo properly, swing it like a scythe dont baby your way up next to a tree, see you got a bit scared thought the pine tree was too big and babied into it and that cut was laboured, theres alot of momentum stored in the saw ad blade at full rpm, fire it into the tree good and quick and itll make a nice clean cut without binding or kicking too much, going in slowly kills all your momentum and power and ends up digging out a big notch in the tree and letting it pinch the blade got a fs131r and tri-wing blade and was doing similar clearing as shown no issue, tri-wing is more of a grass blade but with swapping between grass bushes and small trees so frequently i find it does the job and stops blade changes every minute just gotta swing it with some intent

I have two 131r trimmers with different setups. I leave string on one and the other I rotate between a blade like that for bigger stuff and the Stihl brush knife for medium duty

Nice work. That combination seems to be very powerful. Yoh! Where I live, brush cutters are typically used for grass cutting, with a two string head installed (not a blade). I myself use one in the two string head configuration for maintenance of difficult landscape in my property. Nice to see the potential power of a brush cutter. Thanks for the video.

It does take about 3 tanks of fuel to get to its maximum hp . I only use 93 octane fuel and stihl oil.

@@SteveRobReviews my Stihl dealer told me a suggestion about using non/low-ethanol fuel (usually "premium") as necessary for these units. Depending on the pump and lines used at the gas station, dispense some of the higher octane in your vehicle first and then fill up your brushcutter gas can last because there can be up to a 1/2 gallon of "regular" octane gas that pumps out first as the line switches over to the high octane premium (assuming the previous customer used "regular"). Also he said to be sure to drain all the fuel out of your tank and idle the machine until dead if you are not going to be using your machine for a few months.

i was almost set on getting a DR and didn;t realize that these blades for higher powered trimmers were so effective. Although the DR is probably going to get the job done faster,(i've got two different lots, each about 23 acre. one of them is quite hilly and rocky in parts. i don;t think the DR would be able to safely work in that condition) I was ok with going for a Stihl 240 and saving alot of $.to boot. i also think the DR is going to be a bit more maintenance heavy and the Stihl had a 4 yr warranty on it if you buy a 10 pack of their engine oil at time of purchase.

That's a great question. It comes standard with the grass trimmer head . It's a brute cutting grass with 0.130 heavy duty line .

i use the polycut 28-2 and dont have to mess w the line. i find it does alot better than even the heavy duty line. they did have problems w the previous version so has gotten a bad rap. I've been happy with mine. they do recommend storing them in water as they can be become too brittle otherwise. I've done about 5 acre in heavy, mid-thigh high grass and it works great.

this video was Great, while some show the blades and machine they fail to show in field use. I have a stihl FS94 i am told it is not designed for a Blade , that is was designed with weight and string trimmer use my next buy i was wanting the 131 but hesitate o it cause i fear it may be hard to cut the 2 inch or more stuff. Thanks for the video, i was a shindawia man for many, many years until other manufactures had the EPA run them out of America. shindawia would have to change their machines to do what EPA wanted and they refused to lower quality so the left America, now in Canada. I believe it was a scheme by other equipment manufactures to get Shindawia out.... But I am leaning to 2 machines Redmax or Sthil...

I used my fs90 for years with a blade on it but you just have to take your time but it cut well for me. The handles on the 240 do make it easier to hold but unless your cutting a lot of heavy brush my old fs90 still does the job.

I have been trying an 8 inch carbide blade and so far I like it . Lower cost and so much easier to sharpen with 40 teeth . The smaller diameter sure increases the rpm much faster and the 40 tooth seems to cut almost as well as a 80- 100 tooth 10 inch blade . I prefer Amazon for the prime shipping and low pricing . Check the Amazon warehouse too for great deals on returns.

Have you thought of one of the blades with chain saw teeth? You could sharpen it with a round file. Won’t stay as sharp as carbide but you could sharpen it. Have had good success

If a tooth broke off then it can’t be helped. I believe the guy in town had a jig to match angle and a 400 and 600 grit diamond carbide stone set (could be wrong). Would take all the dull circ saw blades and miter saw blades to him. Cheaper than buying new

Both are fine depending on what your cutting. A smaller blade for me give me better control in really thick brush .

@@SteveRobReviews after thinking about it for a bit I think I want both haha but I'm going to start with a 10-inch because I've got some little Stumpy's on my River Bluff but I'm trying to get rid of. The Stihl chisel blade is just a piece of crap it lasts about five minutes before the teeth wear off. I'm going to Overlay Kentucky Bluegrass I think on my River Bluff to help retain the soil. I spent two 12-hour days with my FS 240 cutting little River Birch and Buckthorn between 1 and 4 in. I did leave a little wild space with Grapevine and River Birch for the birds to prance around in. But 90% of it is cleared and open soil now. I have a Stihl Magnum leaf blower that I blew all the leaves off the bluff. So now there's nothing retaining the soil at all and I'm going to try to Overlay grass seed to get a better hold on soil retention. I think Kentucky Bluegrass is the right choice because it doesn't grow over a foot so it won't be too obstructive for The View. Other soil retention crops I have seen are creeping phlox and creeping thyme. Also Minnesota has a lot of native grasses. But the trouble with these is I can't find them anywhere in bulk quantities for overlaying my River Bluff. So I guess I'm going with grass. It will also make the toll to Bluff more functional for a little bonfires and foot traffic.

Btw, the standard Stihl brush cutter blade will cut through that twice as fast with that 240. That blade you’re using is too big in diameter and too thick for the heavier brush. You shouldn’t have to hold the blade on your work piece and cut through like a chainsaw. A clearing saw should rip through it. Maybe on the tree in the field, that was the right blade. However, a beaver blade is amazing and would cut through that in less than a second. You have to keep them sharp like a chainsaw though is the downside. Cheers

Works great. We cut the brush (usually Huisache) and someone comes up behind us with a small bucket with tordon and a paint brush. Brush on some tordon and on to the next one. Best to do it ASAP after it's cut before the trunk sap seals the cut.

Good Video. We had a Big die-off of Tag Elders around my County in Wisconsin. Lots of guys with marsh areas said they had a big die off also. All I know is for the last ten years they were thick as thieves. Most likely a cycle. You need a buy a Brown Tree Cutter as "Hollis Farms" has. Jason really knows how to run those. I wish we had a die off up here, they are a pain to deal with. If you cut them you have to go back many times to trim the new shoots or they come up even thicker. Only where it stays wet do I have them. The blade does a great job. I will try a new blade next year . Deer will not eat alder but a buddy down the road had a 30 acre field of alder and he put 10 goats in there and within 3 years he had many more goats and not a twig of tag alders. 😅😅

Come to Texas where HUMIDITY gets 80% and temperature is 100+ not a dry stich of clothing, i change clothes 3 to 4 times a day, if wife starts complaining i sit a set of clothes out to dry and when dry re-wear them until i can no longer stand the smell. LOL Yep would LOVE 60 degree weather. Humidity is what kills you it sweats the energy out of you.

I don’t believe you’re using 10” blades on a FS240. I put the same blade on mine based on your video and the vibration is so crazy I can barely hold on. Then the blades become loose. It’s obviously too large for the trimmer. Maybe your using a 9”.

Nope it's a 10 inch and no problems with vibration. Better look at a different blade manufacturers then.

8” Renegades run awesome on the FS240. Not the 10”. I thought maybe the blade was warped in shipping (brand new blade) but it’s not, just put a different blade on and it’s the same thing.

@@zfilmmaker The only thing I can think of is it's not seated correctly as you tighten up the retaining cup. I only have 10 inch blades and never had that happen. Contact renegade they might have some insight into why.
