Wanted to say thank you as I just did a 271 out of the scrap pile based primarily on your videos. Been wanting to try some porting after 2 years of research, nor did I want to play with timing as Im simply not there yet. But I opened things up did a muffler mod went through the carb, new bearings, and pop-up pistons. runs well. Thank you

Hey there Mr Hopper! I like the disclaimer you opened with and I love the fact that you are willing to provide your custom services for the customer simply because they asked. I repaired a plastic bodied Eager Beaver on video... In came the comments! “Waste of time”, “They should get a 395xp and not mess around with that junk”! It belonged to a little 70 year old man who used it annually to trim a couple apple trees. Yeah, he really needed a big Husky!🤪 Bless’ns to ya, Tedd

One thing I will say about the MS271. Good luck getting an aftermarket cylinder for one. They just don't exist. If you need a cylinder you will end up coughing up the $$ for an OEM cylinder unless you can find something used.

So did you pug up the original muffler outlet or did you leave it open . I've got a 271 but all I did was open up the original outlet on the muffler bigger which was a pain . I'm not real happy with it doesn't seem to be very pepe and the 271 I have is better than that one cause it has Farm Boss on it 😂🤣 but I noticed it does have farm boss on the bar . I need to do that intake mod and probably drill hole in muffler and do it . What size conduit did you use for that little piece of pipe. I've got 1/2 , 3/4 , and 1 inch but I haven't never used the 1 inch on anything .

I'm getting ready to mod my 291 muffler and I'd love to know what size pipe was used as well. Love the content!

You mentioned that you soldered the pipe into the muffler- pardon the stupid question but doesn't the solder melt at exhaust temperatures?

Hey buddy no i use saftey silv 45 its the silver solder for soldering carbide to mild steele and things like that it has to be cherry red to melt

Looking for advice: I picked up a used 271 and had no spark, got things cleaned up and now I have spark. Saw still won't run, looked into cylinder and piston is burned with scaring on wall.....can the cylinder be honed? Or just start with new?
@mikedebear9 ай бұрын
@@EdyCarrillo-f9f If the cylinder wall is scarred that's usually from lack of oil in the fuel. If I'm not mistaken that same oil vapor helps lube the other moving parts in the crankcase. You could be looking at more than just a piston/rings/cylinder. The replacement parts for something like can sometimes cost just as much as a new saw unfortunately. Good luck!

Could I use 3/4" thin-wall electrical conduit, and what temperature would I need to achieve a good solder joint? @@bellhoppersaws
@bellhoppersaws Жыл бұрын
The conduit has a coating that has to be ground off and cherry red for the silver solder and it not the solder you get from the hardware store for copper

recent dealings with Stihl tech support indicates they don't want people to have a quality product at high cost either. On example; I am looking at the serial number and label, that say made in the USA, and reading the message from tech support telling me that the ms362 cm was only made in Germany. I don't know where Stihl gets these people, but the parts reference numbers he gave me were a mess also. I am DONE with Stihl.
