You are absolutely right on what you have said in most of your comments and I have both and now I have more Echo now than STIHL’S this days, and I am just getting into chainsaw milling.

This video was especially helpful, I went with the 590 which I got for the price of a CS400- obviously no regrets, I love it. And I love your music too man, been a Five Finger Death Punch fan since the beginning. Didn’t know you were so knowledgeable and passionate about chainsaws too! Great channel.

@8:30 These are all important reminders and tips for newer - potentially professional sawyers, so, I really appriciate that sentiment. Oil matrers too. If you run a race oil, whether for actual racing, OR an operation like milling. I was just telling folks the other night that, castor oils, like Maxim Castor 947 WILL drop out of suspension in bitter cold, and if you don't shake it up, you're very likely gonna have some trouble. I'm glad a friend clied me in of that quite a few years ago, because it's not commonly talked about ouside racing circles, and even there, it's not talked about much. Maxin Castor 927 is great oil, and I suspect for long haul milling ops, I think it's a serious contender as a "daily go-to oil to keep these pumps pumpin' and millin'. No ethenol fuel will let your carburetors live, so, just plain, - do NOT run ethenol fuel in saws if you have access to pure gas. That simple. If I were to design a saw, it'd have a drain plug in a spot that makes sense. No valve. Simple brass plug with a nex head. Bar oil . . . a valve WOULD be nice if your draining 30wt with a ton of perifin in it. That's what bar oil actually is, if memory serves me. I'd more likely remote the tank for the bar oil and therefore, use a simple hose to go from tank to oiler inlet. Simplicity builds REALLY good lookin' gear! Maj knows, I think, that I'm a "Rip the plastics off, but TASTEFULLY" kinda guy. (No need to be piggie about it, eh Maj?) Maybe it'd be more accurate to say, I'm big on eloquent solutions that are more solid and more robust, while being far easier to maintain and service. Would it not be cool if we colaberated on an open source cad / cnc bottom end and handle assy, complete with a well engineered crank, rod and bearings, where, the rest is, "Build what ya want?" My weak area where chinsaws are concerened is the oiler. That's because most of my 2-stroke work has been "not chainsaws." Tomato tommato. @Majorpix - you're crushing it - so - brace yourself for some bs my friend! When the drama starts, put on some Charlie Daniels Band and let 'em tell you the tale of when the Devil Went Down To Georgia . . . and get your groove on for a bit, or . . . Miles Davis and "paperwork." You know - all in stride, and with a good heart, even for a fool, sir, because avoiding the argument saves you all the time you need to do "something better." Stay vigilant, and stay healthy, brother. For me, part of "healthy" includes, "Being right, in and of itself is not nearly good enough - I have to be KIND enough to with the heart of a "would be" "enemy," else, what's the point of knowing and SPEAKING "truth." The truth wrapped in thorns is a poor hearted gesture indeed, ain't it? Sure seems that way to me. How's that for a chainsaw tip? Love what you're doing here, Maj, so . . . I watch, like, and comment when I can! You do a great job here! Slow and steady wins the race! Anyhow, don't get stuck in your seat getting distracted by what is NOT actually important. Remember, (like Red Green says), we're all in this together, and keep your chicks free of lice! Wait, no no, that's not it. Ummmm Remember, if the women don't find ya handsome, it's not okay to use duct ta. . . .. no, that's not it. I'm a man - but I can cha . . . wait a minute, let me think on that one-NO! I'm gonna just be a man, and that's my final answer. Oh well. I'll leave the comedy to REAL comedians! Back to chores. Yup. Send my love to the fam, Maj. Praying on y'all. Happy Tuesday Nov 29th 2022 all!

In all fairness though, I will say that they are easy to make run even if they haven't been treated the best, and that does take some skill to "build into a saw." Think of it . . . you don't need training to buy and destroy a saw, then blame the manufacturer, so . . . that IS a real challenge for manufacturers that DO build - as the market demands it - pro-sumer grade options. Objectivity is wise. There's a reason small saws don't come with "Yellow Chain," and further, have huge restriction in the airflow path in many cases. It's an engineering decision with valid reasons, not ONLY "planned obsolescense," bit also, "Yeah, but if it doesn't ever start past year one . . . ." A lot goes in to designing and building an entire line of chainsaws.

Very true on all accounts... early on in my milling I used it for all the reasons you just said. And it would surprise you how well the 590 does on the Norwood mill. It was at the time an affordable reliable saw for me to mill with. Later I found out that the larger saws like the 880 and the 660 really chewed through the slabs and got much more involved in chainsaws.

For ms311 money, buy the cs620. Bang for the buck at 60cc you can't beat the cs590, and at 50cc the cs4910 (now discontinued but still some available).

being nerdy about cs620 vs cs590 .. if you had to buy one at full price** I would argue the cs620 is way more bang for your buck than the cs590 because it has so many upgrades. cs620 basically is a factory ported cs590 with a 2 ring piston, unlimited coil, larger carb, double dogs, mg clutch cover, metal top handle.. .. .. on the other hand the reason I would agree with you that cs590 is the best bang for the buck is in some areas you can find them being resold new in the box from private sellers for 250-300 without tax so at that price cs590 really is the best bang for your buck.. also the cs590 has a limited coil and governed carb so it is designed to run rich in a way to prevent ignorant users from being able to turn up the rpms or lean out the carb.. my main complaint about cs590 is the clutch cover nuts can fall off and potentially get lost and cs590 comes without a double dog on the clutch cover. If you have a cs620 you can use that mg clutch cover on your cs590 to gain double dogs and the clutch cover nuts wont fall out of the clutch cover anymore.
