That rear handle saw is really lazy even on the free rev. The top handle is faster in the cut, but the throttle response is so much better which I would think is important if your using the saw for what it's intended purpose. Thanks for the video.

If you want the same model tach that is used in a lot of these videos probably the best place is to watch fleabay. The 2100 model can usually be found for under 200 bucks. At a saw shop/local brick and mortar probably 250-300.

There is a brief video explanation of what happened. Based on watching the video it's clear that it is almost certainly not a lean seize. Lean seized saws don't just start right back up, they take a bit of cool off time and when they do restart they are obviously hurt. Not the case with the 346. The saw is started back up, sounds good, isn't smoking it has none of the signs of an actual lean seize. I also don't understand why some of you feel the need to try and ask these questions in a way that casts HOTSAWS101 in a negative light. There was a clear statement that he was pushing the limits in the orginal video. I think it really shows some transparency that HOTSAWS101 is willing to post any of the R&D process at all. Anyone who says they've never had a failure while pushing the limits and trying new things either is outright lying or they're keyboard warriors.

Both circuits are vacuum drawn. It use to be somewhere around 30% of the fuel at high idle was coming through the low speed circuit. Of course when you can adjust the needles that can be altered. I'm not positive on what/where the new and improved save you from yourself, "self medicating" saws are hovering. They have a "target of market: of somewhere around 14.7:1 air to fuel - which is way lean when compared to the tried and true 13:1 for a properly tuned machine. It unclear if any of this is of interest though. Though I might refine the thought process "just a fuzz".

Do you have any "how-to" articles/sites or is all your info just "here&there" in your videos? Am in-love w/ what you're doing, wanna get there myself, having a HELL of a time going from "can fix damn-near any chainsaw that was 'damaged beyond repair'" to "can make a chainsaw run 1/5th faster/stronger" (is that an accurate estimate, ~20% stronger in-cut? Am only able to glean a true before/after ## from a video where user @Human tests stock V modified 200's (or 201's maybe) and does like 4-6 cuts on-video then times the results to 100th's-seconds and the average boosts were ~2sec on ~10sec cuts! He also just leaves both units, running, on his garage-floor and the modded one is just running in-circle like 1/3rd faster than the stock one!) TThanks so much for all you do, would honestly be sending you a Scheppach CSP2540 to mod for me (if you'd even consider it - I think I can make a solid case it's a quasi-"Echo cs2511t"-clone, about 1lbs heavier though), but wanna be able to do it myself as I've done all the basic mods (muff-mod, *heavy* air-intake expansion, a ton of ergonomics&usability mods) but wanna move-onto more aggressive stuff, have the gear (grinders w/ tons of 1/4" shanked bits for it, it's 25k RPM so should do anything I need here), so since these are like $130 (shipped!) saws I'm planning to get a 2nd so I don't lose my fave saw if I do break it during mods, first mod will be tearing-open the exhaust outlet port on the block as it's got a giant ridge that may as well be marked "cut/grind here for more power" rofl, look at this it's like 1/4th+ of the port imgur.com/gallery/Ji4smGH Then the inlet port, possibly some more air-intake modification and possibly a larger or a 2nd/redundant fuel filter (maybe larger fuel-lines as well) and finally timing-advance!!! When, if ever, do you find a modded saw benefits from premium fuels? What is premium fuel, and 'ok' fuel, to you? I had been using eth-free only but recently after getting a better undertanding of gas-station-gas I began wanting nothing-but Motomix, sadly most places nearby don't stock it so use "40:1 or 50:1"(must be 45:1?) 'small engine fuel' from walmart or 95oct Husqvarna mix when I'm nearby the place that sells it, I'd probably turn my nose up at a single tankful of non-premix at this point after seeing how crappy gas-station fuel is & how sensitive our saws are!! Cerberus Bonsai & Arboriculture hi. I guess it depends on the skill level of the viewer. There is some interesting stuff but it may take watching the entire video to bring it full circle if your talking about falling trees. Tuning saws - no. Depends upon the level of the build. The Chinese cylinders have plating that is to thin and flakes offs easily. Although, I've never works on the saw to mention. They run better and will develop a little more power. Premium would be the higher octane and more costly pump gas. Other parts of the world have a much higher grade of fuel coming out of their pumps as a side note. I spent a time running race gas. Pump gas mixed with race gas. I've ran pump gas a lot over the years too. We're talking years spent and millions cut. I did use premium Chevron specifically. Always lace it with boost though. Ethanol fuel gets a bad wrap from poor maintenance habits of the user a lot from what I can tell. It is not so bad IF it is getting run through without sitting for long periods of time. It's the sitting and going stale that causes the deterioration for the most part. That starts after ~ 30 days depending upon the storage container. Think your shooting yourself in the foot with the Walmart and/or Husky because both of the oils used in those are subpar. I'd run premium pump gas laced with boost and my mix oil WAY before using either of those two in any saw. Thanks for watching.

Alex Coleman depends on the saw ... imho the purpose of the gasket is to seal any imperfections between the 2 mating surfaces and to also act as a “cushion” so to speak ... the 2 surfaces COULD BE machined to fit together but this may prove a costly endeavor ... most builders machine the base of the cylinder and retain the gasket ... gotta remember on a 2-stroke the fuel is sucked into the crankcase thus lubricating the bottom-end before being sent out the transfers ... a leak between the mating surfaces may prove catastrophic as the saw will run lean ... If you are STIHL adamant about deleting it make sure you measure squish and use the proper sealant ... I believe STIHL uses “dirko” on their products iirc

Try using the pferd or STIHL 2 in 1 in the 3/8lp configuration ... sharpens tooth and raker at once ... handy to have when on the job in the field ... better yet sqr/sqr grind the picco ps 63 for some quick cut/cut ... just be aware it takes a wee bit more hp to pull it thru the timber

Stevo hi. The stops were taken down to where I was taking material off the "anti-kickback" segment as well as the actual "raker-gauges". The chain did not cut because of it's design - mostly the shape of the tooth itself. In one of the videos I used a "safety chain" that has the chisel tooth design and it cut really well. Tooth shape & length make a huge difference in the way they cut from what I have seen. Thanks for watching.

WeberBuilt hi. Neither one of these saws are turning extreme rpms. At least as far as I am concerned for a saw anyway. As far as I found, most of the mix oil (current) research was done on liquid cooled engines. Did your research yield the latent heat component associated with higher mix oil concentrations? Chainsaws are air cooled, excessive heat is not a benefit to them. Oil will, to a degree, hold in heat. Part of the consideration needs to be the quality of the mix oil as well. All mix oils are not created equally - not even close. You need more of a middle of the road mix oil to get the same lubricating qualities as one from the top tier at a lower concentration. This is because of the physical component's chemical makeup and how they perform under heat and pressure. I have cut thousands of log truck loads of logs over a fairly long career using some pretty radical saws. I tried all types of mix oils over the years. I have seen the insides of a lot of saws run on many different mix oils at varying concentrations and for varying lengths of time. The Homelite mix oil (purple hue) was actually a pretty good choice of the time, as was the Areolube. The new, top tier synthetics are another long stride ahead of the best petroleum based oils from what I have seen. Thanks for watching.

WeberBuilt Weber while I haven’t cut anywhere near the amount of wood Hotsaws101 has during his extensive career; I have thru the years processed a few thousand face-cord of wood and have found the 50:1 ratio with a superior mix oil and non ethanol fuel seems to give a nice mix of performance and longevity even while using saws ported by Hotsaws101 ... I’ve seen guys squawk about 32:1 ratios being superior but I simply don’t agree with that statement.... today’s modern oils are FAR superior to the oil from 20 yrs ago .... Jack is a knowledgeable guy and has the benefit of experience ... one other thing to mention ;where I reside in wny the fuel is not the greatest even from the “known” gas stations ... I’ve seen independent studies where gas tested at over 20% + ethanol when the pump sez 10% ! No saw is going to perform well using that fuel whether it’s mixed at 50:1 or 32:1 .... I’ve used STIHL motomix when I’m doing just a bit of cutting and the saws run clean and strong ! If I’m doing a lot of cutting (2+ gallons of fuel or more in a day ) I’ll run 91 non-ethanol and STIHL ultra ... I can buck up a face cord of 18-19 inch ash with the 461R in 5 mins or less under ideal conditions

WeberBuilt hi. Any change to a set amount of liquid through the addition or subtraction of another fluid will alter the amount of the original liquid as well. I.E. at 50:1 there is 12.8 ozs of mix oil in solution and 627.2 ozs of gas. At 40:1 there is 16 ozs of mix oil and 624 ozs of gas. Assuming both are using a 5 gallon can/jug.
