Felixia Banck aka FemaleLumberjack has been testing out this homeowner chainsaw. The MS 231 chainsaw is ideal for for private users or farmers felling small trees, cutting firewood and general landscape maintenance.

Most home owner saws are really good nowadays, most of the issues come from the operator not knowing how to maintain the saw, poor chain sharpening, dirty air filters, poor engine tuning. Once you sort these issues out for them, they don't believe it's the same saw that they have been using. Great video, keep posting. Thanks

Don’t underestimate those saws Felixia, I picked up a 12 year old ms 230 last year and it’s cut over 80 ton of wood so far and Stihl running great. Love to see a video of you at work. “ A day in the life of Felixia Bancke” 👍🌻

A great review I think with none of the usual pro-snobbery about saws. The 231 is a great saw for 90% of users 90% of the time so it gets my vote as does this channel.

G'day FLJ, a good mate of mine that I went to tech high with is the only person that works on my saws, he suggests that you should warm them up and cool them down no matter what they are . He's been a small engine mechanic for 35 years and with Stihl for 25 👍.

13 pounds! My 550XP MK2 is that heavy. Very nice review and nice carvings in the background.
@em47034 жыл бұрын
It's actually half a lb lighter, measured the heads a few days ago. You could say it's nothing compared to the power difference, but this thing is 1/3rd the price of a 550xp with 30% less power. For someone with a budget that doesn't cut wood 3-4h a day, every day, this saw is the right choice.
@MyGFIsMaria Жыл бұрын
Well, Stihls corresponding model (261) is lighter than the 550 mk 2 with the same rated power. So this saw is not ment to compete with that segment.

Why do you have to let the 231 warm up? Then again you should let all small, air cooled engs. warm up, and cool down. That is what really makes them last.
@SHOKRE0032 жыл бұрын
every, and I mean EVERY 2 stroke engine needs to warm up before "abuse"... starting your ms 500 and full throttle it right away wont make it last so long... if you do not care of its durability, than it doesnt matter, start it and go full throttle right away ;)
Today I was running the saws. I went from my 660 to the 231 and the 231 feels like a toy.

@@Femalelumberjack , how much power does the MSA220 have, is it more or less than this saw or 261 or 241? That would be a great video to see, a comparison between all those saws with new chains. Gas power saws usually gain power with break in and cordless power saws usually lose power.

@Femalelumberjack4 жыл бұрын

@johnnellis30253 жыл бұрын
I've had my home owner toy saw over 25 years. 024 AV Super Wood Boss. Still going strong. A cord of firewood every year. Requires 91 octane, can run leaded, i've run any thing i could find thru it, even 87 octane. And then along came ethanol, i hate that garbage. Eats away at everything, even the tank! I now get my gas from an airport,100 octane leaded.$$ Expensive but good. Around the home property, it's good. If i had to pay for what that saw has saved me, then even that bottled gas isn't so expensive. I've had bigger saws, my 024 saw holds an 18 in bar. Why do you need a bigger saw? What are you cutting? And then you might say, yes i do need a bigger saw! Except for some of us, it's a perfect saw!

I don’t really understand why these are called home owner saws, they are all basically built to the same quality, so why not just label them as a smaller model? My theory is that Stihl wants to make sure that Bubba doesn’t go and buy his first saw and ends up with the 500i. :)
@MyGFIsMaria Жыл бұрын
The quality is far from the same. Pro saws have vital parts made from magnesium/aluminum and consumer saws generally have many of the same components made from plastic.
@sstorholm Жыл бұрын
@@MyGFIsMaria have you compared them side by side? The professional models feature somewhat more durable parts, but you'd need to use it daily to ever wear them out. As for the amount of plastic, it's a very small difference.
@MyGFIsMaria Жыл бұрын
@@sstorholmI have both new Stihl pro saws and consumer saws and I have compared them. There are alot of differences in material and there is no doubt a pro saw will last longer. It’s not a problem for a homeowner to wear out a home owner saw, but a pro saw will probably last until the rubber components fail of age.
@sstorholm Жыл бұрын
