I loved my Ms 361. My ms 261 pro wasn't so good. But it might have needed tuned, though I bought both new. My 361 and my 200T were my go to saws as needed. I would dearly love to have them both back. I hope your new version gets much better. 😎👍

Now that you’ve had it a while, have you gotten the AV on it figured out or fixed? Just curious, only place to go from my ms390 is to the ms461 or ms661(assuming I stay with Stihl) as I need to do minor milling as well (my properties in Alaska need cabins).

441 did have an excellent centrifugal separation and the 261 has it as well but I find that the bigger saw separated much better, not even much dust got by. Hard to believe you got vibration through Stihls normally too soft spring system. Thanks for the review.

I've used a few of these and they are a fairly good saw. I have a new one that I will break in this week end before I let it loose into other hands. The 8 tooth drive sprocket really caused the saw to bog down, I'll stick to the standard 7. I like the idea of the two sets of dog teeth (that is a feature I like on the MS460/1/2 and MS660/1) . Good to see that you are safety conscious. 👍✔👌

I bumped up to one of these from my old 026Pro. What a difference. I have the 20 and 25 inch bars for mine, it runs both very well. I run the full chisel Stihl RS chain and its a beast I was going to look at the 390 but the 362 had more power and was lighter. Love the videos!

I've had a 362 for years and love it! My new 462 is even more awesome! I've never owned a husky and I'm sure they're a fine saw but I prefer the deep throatier sound of the stihl compared to the high pitched scream of the husky.

Thank you for the video. I got an 036 in 1993 the direct decedent of the 362 (Shihl seemed to drop the leading zero and add a version level digit to the back). With that saw I was comparing it to an 028 a friend of mine had in the West Virginia Tech Trails & Outings Club. I was at first disappointed the 036 didn't rev and cut with the speed and finesse I saw with the 028. With the 028 I witnessed my friend go into a 2 1/2 foot thick West Virginia Oak with a vertical cut throwing huge quantities of saw chips 8 feet vertical into the air that in about minute slowly drifted down to turned my friend into to a saw chip snowman before my eyes! That 028 was using a 0.325 chains, a chain size0 I didn't think was all that aggressive. I was really thinking there was something wrong with my 036. Then at about 15 to 20 tanks the saw started to rev and cut aggressively . THAT'S A LONG TIME. It was used for trail clearing where volunteers typically carry away the the cut up wood. It became the center piece of enthusiasm for dicing big wood into human readily moveable pieces almost as fast as people could take the pieces away. I rotated through three of Shihl's most aggressive full chisel tooth chains, typically swapping out a chain with each fuel tank full. In trail work you are almost always working close to the ground where soil contamination of the wood is unavoidable, even using a steel brush to get the worst dust and dirt off the area of sawing.

Yes, the 028s are nothing to sneeze at, (I have three of them; 2 German made, but the one made in the USA leaves much to be desired) but I love my ms362, when/if it runs. I am really sick of replacing coils, and although the m-tronic is nice, , ,I think these things have big, big electronic/electrical issues, and definitely coil issues.

So looking to increase my skills and equipment I'm now looking at the 362. Great review btw. I still have a lot to learn. In comparing the 362 r c-m with just the c-m it's about $30.00 cheaper. So my question is the aftermarket handle for almost $300 better than the factory one? I'm sure attention to detail and quality is probably better. Is it worth the coin? I do believe in buy once, cry once.

Nice review! I have two of the older 362s carb models. Great saws, and they always start. Picked up a 261mtronic this year. Deff cuts smooth as butter. When she is warm you need to start it with the throttle wide open. My 661, 201tc are both similar so it's not a big deal. Looking forward to its log term hold up because I have heard bad thing about that mtronic model, but it could just be people that don't know how to start them.

Tom Saad they have problems. a logger friend of mine 39 hours on 661 m-tronic went down. 1 week later i removed all the mtronic stuff put a 660 carb and coil on it. now it runs really nice more power to. you have to do some grinding to make it work but its worth it. no more problems and more power cant beat that

I just bought one of these (german new version) and it is pretty good so far, but it seems to be dripping alot of oil behind the side cover. At roughly 4:22 , you speak of a metal wear plate? My other saw an ms250 doesnt have this and oils great. Im wondering if this metal wear plate could be the reason oil seems to be going everywhere behind the side cover. Any thoughts*?
@Human1337
@Human1337 6 жыл бұрын
Not certain, could just be oiling too much though. Saw can run a 25" bar, and if you're running a 20" or so like I do, likely just need to turn down the oiler a bit.

Thanks for the video Human. For a one man home owner saw keeping his woods cleaned up and cutting fire wood would you recommend the ms261 or this ms362? And standard carb or Mtronic? Looking to add another saw to go with my ms250 (currently has a 18” bar but will be going with a 16” bar when I pick up a new saw.) new saw will primarily run a 18” with option to put a 20” on when needed. HUMAN! Nice saw. I have the model before the facelift and love it.After about 20 tanks threw the machine I did a muffle mod and it pulls an 8pin rim perfectly, saw responded very well to the changes. The ms362cm is my preferred saw to use over some of the bigger/heavier saws, mostly because it is just a pleasure to run.... with a 20" bar anyways. When I need a bigger bar I just grab the 661As far as the av system goes on the saw I have. I can use it for hours with no complaints.... nothing like my old pioneers and huskies.Keep up the good work and be safe.

Wanting to go with a pro model, looking at the 441 c-m. Have any experience with them? Mostly bucking work as well as some limbing. I think my ms291 would be ok, but I can't see a need for a 462.

Great review Human, keep yoo the good work. I think Stihl left holes for carb setting because of money saving reason, probably they would be left with quite few of them panels. It's the same with cars industry, always trying to squeeze in older bits and left overs tho minimize lose. Can You please consider reviewing Technical Extreme trousers from Husqvarna, heard good things about them. And now You should have easy access. Have a good one, and remember Safety First.

On a new saw, what rpm and throttle position/ times/durations procedures should be used to break in the engine correctly ? With the tolerances they have with robotic machining these days, there isn't really anything that needs to be done special, big thing not to do is run it wide open without a load (out of the cut). Brand new I brake them in by running full go through several tanks of fuel, other than that, I don't do anything special.

I R.... I have 2 562xp's, great cutting saw. Worst saw to try and start while hot..... stay away. I will never buy a husky again! Not to mention extremely poorly designed air filter assembly, allowing fine dust straight in the carby! I want money my fucken back!!!!!

I'd give the 8 tooth a longer test from a cold start. The manual states it takes 5 similar cuts for the computer to readjust to any change in running conditions, be they environmental (temp', baro, altitude) or physical.

Hopefully you dead this comment. I'm getting ready to finally go pick up my 362 tomorrow, but am leaning more towards the R, seeing as how it comes with the wrap around handle. What's your thoughts, would it be cheaper for me to just get the one in this vid, then do the wrap around separate? Hoping for your input bud thanks.
@Human1337
@Human1337 6 жыл бұрын
I do love having a wrap handle, at times it can be a bit of a pain though. Makes storing and transporting the saw more difficult than you'd think. Not sure about price though, imagine it would be more expensive to put it on later, so if you're going to do it, I'd probably just buy the R version to start.

What octane gas do you use in your saws? I use highest octane , is that best?
@Human1337

93, and yes, higher is better. Especially with the stihl mtronic saws, I've had idling issues with them on lower octane fuel.

How is your 362 running? My friend is a professional tree man for a living. He bought two ms362s about 4-6 months ago. Recently he was cutting with the one and it couldn't make it through the wood. He took it in under warranty and the piston was completely scored with no compression. He was running Stihl high performance non synthetic oil and the saw only made it less than 6 months.

Mines running great, it's the saw I was using in the video I recently posted when I was felling at my buddies property. My first one though did have vibration issues, and stihl ended up replacing it with a whole new saw. Wonder if his had the same issue mine had. They never told me what the problem was, but there was one as my new one doesn't have the same vibration problem that the original one did.

They gave him a whole new power head. And his other 362cm is in for problems with the pull cord. I have the exact same saw and mine has been running great. I only use mine for firewood though.

@Human1337
@Human1337 6 жыл бұрын
Not really on the chains, just make sure and keep'em touched up. Can't adjust the mixture on these new mtronic saws, they adjust themselves. On regular carbs though, absolutely, especially if I mod it, then you've really got to richen it up a bit

I tell my customers 3-5 hours of run time for break in. Im not sure how that breaks down in tanks of fuel but by 4 tanks of HP ultra you should have significant protection against 1 tank of straight gas...

What is your opinion on having one dog on the engine side of the bar compared to dogs on both sides of the bar?
@Human1337
@Human1337 6 жыл бұрын
I like dogs on both sides, makes it much easier when cutting around flares, like stump cuts.
@donzmilky5961
@donzmilky5961 6 жыл бұрын
Human great answer, i never really considered that, a few days ago i took a pretty big stump out my yard with my ms271, having a dog on the other side would have helped a lot, or a full wrap handle. It was hard to keep the cuts straight without the dog in the wood, and i would have had to dig deeper to get the body of my saw in the hole low enough if i chose to cut recoil side down.
@donzmilky5961

Human especially since all i have is an 18 inch bar and it was a 22 inch stump haha. Do you know if theres a magnesium captive nut cover with dogs that would fit onto an ms271? I like my saw a lot and dont want no mtronics haha.
