Great job cutting up and moving those logs. They looked very difficult to move
@BuildALotAcres Жыл бұрын
Yes sir. They were definitely heavy. According to the log weight calculator the biggest of the rounds were about 430 lbs, or just under 200 kilograms

Yes sir. Hickory is super dense with iron like bark. When I saw the big Stihl smiling with woodchips stuck in his teeth, I felt much better 😁

Great video Case. Thats big heavy wood. Chainsaw nice and sharp. Big chips coming out. Fuel price here is $1.58 per litre for gasoline. $2.64 per litre for diesel. Do you think a gasoline tractor would be cheaper to operate, with these prices. ? Your thoughts.

Interesting question Noel. Gas is cheaper than diesel here as well. I don’t think it would be cheaper overall though. Diesel engines tend to more fuel efficient than gas engines in my experiences. So any up front savings would be negated by your fuel consumption per hour difference.

@@BuildALotAcres Well Case I did some searching. A Allis Chalmers D 15 tractor gasoline engine used 12.8 litres per hour, costing $20.22, at todays prices here. The diesel version D15 tractor used 10.9 litres per hour, costing $28.66. Fuel usage calculating by Nebraska testing of tractors. I’m sure there are of factors, but that’s just what I got out of it.

@@noelstractors-firewood57 Interesting data Noel. I guess a diesel would be more expensive to run, mainly due to the absurd costs they are selling it for. Without getting political, there’s no good reason diesel should be so much more expensive per gallon than gasoline. It’s a less refined product and in theory should be a similar price, or cheaper. ;)

Thanks Case, you know all to well but if you are going to make firewood you need to invest in professional equipment Hickory is hard on a saw. Cry once when buying a quality saw.

Yes sir. I bought this 460 new twenty years ago. It’s seen a lot of timber. Even then I think it was a hair over $800 with a 25” b&c. In addition to professional equipment, I’d add a sharp chain is also critical.

@@t.jeffveal-goattownfirewood Thank you sir. I try to be efficient with my time, which unfortunately means spending more upfront. In the long run, I’m happy with the purchases I’ve made. How’s the Wolfe Ridge working out? Looks like a beast!
