A couple things in this video hit me. First is scales are a lot of fun when you’re an engine builder and every experienced performance builder knows full well there is power to be gained removing weight from any piece that moves. And best yet, it’s free power too. Second thing that hit me was “it’s just a saw.” While we all know that’s true from one perspective, when you’re someone who is doing more than just slapping stock parts together and you’re actually modifying things, these are our creations. No one is ever going to build another one exactly like it even if it’s really close. Much like an artist with their painting or a singer with their song, this is the way us mechanical folks bring forth our creativity.

You said a mouthful there! It shouldn't be THAT much fun trying to outsmart a conglomeration of various metals, but it IS!!

I know it's been a while but thanks for going through your buddies 038. I just acquired an 038 super and a 038 mag, both healthy runners. The mag is definitely my next user!! Cheer! Brian in Oregon

Such great saws aren’t they? A shade heavy but I’m not walking in the woods all day so who cares. I can’t wait to dig around inside the questionable 038 mag I’ve got and thankful for everything Tinman put on here about that build. Every build really.

Great video Tinman! I've got a Stihl TS400 cut off saw that I dont use a ton. Always thought it would be cool to turn it into a chainsaw. Maybe a big setup for milling. Then I spoke to a Stihl mechanic, and he explained that it would be a total re-engineering of the whole saw, not just bolting on a bar. Oh well. Keep up the good work sir!

Family = Safe...lol (Mr.Deeds). Changed the tail lights on my trailer today. It's already to go. Will be cutting in a couple of weeks. I cleaned up the piston on that nogo 272xp, used your goto moves on it. Good idea and info. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

Iffn you put a Husky piston in a Stihl, you would have to cut the top of the cylinder, and possibly crown the top of the piston….then raise your ports to allow any timing you want? Could there be an advantage for all the additional work?

my ms 460 rod tips a little I know it's post to move left to right but tipping at top I'm not sureif you slide it all the way to the right at bottom and tip the top of rod it will go about a third of the way to the left with bottom of rod not moving

Tinman I have both a 460 and 461 and I’ve run both back to back many times and I love both but the 460 wins it’s just better it has more power and for some reason it just feels better that’s my opinion

Hey, dumb question from the new MS362C owner.... is it just me or is the oil pump like... stingy with the oil?? is there an upgrade that I can do to get more oil out to the 20" bar and chain??
@MemphisMechanic
@MemphisMechanic Жыл бұрын
362 should have and adjustable oiler. Some googling should show you it’s location. That saw should oil a 20” quite heavily when opened up.

If you grind on the piston "windows," do you worry about balance? How do you keep the weight distributed evenly? Or, does it matter?

Question for you Tinman! So can you run a single ring on a piston that comes stock with 2 rings? I just ordered a new meteor piston for my MS460, so could i run 1 ring on that? Like take 1 off? Thanks man!
@tinmanssaws

@tinmanssaws your awesome man! Watching countless videos of yours has Gave me the confidence to rip my 460 down and new piston and port it! Since it's my first port job, not gonna mess with the timing numbers, just gonna hog out the transfers and do a little grinding on the piston windows per your suggestion! Keep the videos coming man! Much love from Oregon USA!
