MS460. True story, my shop got broken into and I had my saws stolen on Monday, an MS460 and a 272XP. On Wednesday I saw them for sale on Kijiji so I quickly made a police report and after having to jump through some hoops to prove they were mine I got them back on Thursday. I have run that MS460 for eight years now with no issues and sure am glad to have it back.

Ray hi. That sure sucks. Any good news for you on getting you saws back and the perpetrators getting an extended stay at the cross bar hotel?

Jack you and Buckin are my favorite channels on KZbin. I find the bench talk just as enjoyable as field work. Your knowlage and ur ability to explain is amaizing.

Bench videos are always great, it's nice to see 2 versions side by side at the same time. I think the big takeaway here is I better go buy another couple 461's before they disappear around here!

Three years later the correct answer is still yep, grab as many 461s as you can. And 880s, and 390s and 395s and 3120s and 372s and 660s. The new EPA mandated stuff is light and snappy but not as hardy or torquey as the giants of the past

After watching the video and viewing the various components on each saw ( air filter ; intake ; cylinder ; exhaust ) my vote goes to the 461 ... I’m sure the 462c can be hopped-up to perform well however the flow characteristic(s) seem superior on the 461 at least imho
@jeffcoulter71814 жыл бұрын
462 has better power to wight ratio, yes the design is a lot different to the 461, but that’s just progress in my opinion.

MsMohaman hi. I had some nice ones of both the 572 and the 462 working on nice reds and fir but, of course, my computer glitched and wrecked 2 sd cards. Have few midy reds with the 462 to post, eventually. Thanks for watching.

Whether it's power saws or truck engines, the increasing complexity (and cost) is all being driven by emission standards. I'd be more ok with it if the whole world played by the same rules.

Thank you so much for your time and exploded view of the 2 saws together. Love these videos. What are some of your thoughts on trying to incorporate the best of the two saws together? Will you try and use the larger bearing on the 461? Will you try and use a modified 461 piston on the 462?
@hotsaws1016 жыл бұрын
d hamby hi. You are welcome. Thanks. Nothing really fits between the two it is a complete redesign on the 462. The larger wrist pin bearing is in the 462. It won't work/fit into the end of the rod on the 461. The skirt of the 461 is completely different than the 462 and I don't think it will won't work well with the "factory controlled air leak" design in the strato version 462 cylinder. Thanks for watching.

Hello! I'm looking at your channel with interest. Is it comparable to speed and power ms462 with ms461? which is faster ?
@fifty150sixteen6 жыл бұрын
Stihl behind in times can't quite get it right and over complicated with parts that have the sole purpose of making other parts fit because it wasn't quite designed right. Then you have the EPA making things even more complicated....Better you work on them than me. Love the videos though.

I have a 460 that spanks my 661. 460 is artic set up, I have done carb and muffler work on it but stock otherwise. Never touched the 661 yet, but felt it should have run over the 460. 32 Inch bar on 661 7 pin full comp chain cut mainly all hard wood. 460 has 28 inch bar ever think else is same

You saying the old model is better than the new one? That would be interesting! 😊

Very good, very indepth video. Now with a few yrs passing, what of these 2 stood the test of time? - used versions. Or would you prefer a 460 over these 2? Thanks As long as the Holy Spirit is still on this earth, there's hope. Keep up the good fight. -Jesus Christ is King.

James hi. I have a friend. Brother James. Uses the Ultra mix oil. Every 6 months its new piston time on his 462. The 461s will go for a few years all things being equal. I can make the 461s have more ability than the 460s. And it where it counts - pulling a long bar. I had a few 046s. The 461s weigh a bit more but I would take that model 1st. We are lucky in that regard. And so be it (Amen). Thanks for watching.

I vote nah on the 462... more ccs always wins, also more parts=more failure, guess I need to save my pennies and pick up a couple more 461s and soon, now Im not totally apposed to innovation, but discontinuing a champ like the 461 for a dubious successor is a bad idear, perhaps labeling it a 442cm see what happens from there
@Fabzacres6 жыл бұрын
Yeppers ... the 461 is a PROVEN platform ... seems like the 661cm had ALOT of bugs to work out - can’t speak for the 462cm but I’ll stick with the tried and true ... let someone else be the “guinea pig” lol

Tim hi. Everyone has their own criteria. If yours are met by a particular saw, by all means buy it!, lol. I've weighed 462s several times. Kind of amazing how little mass that saw has. Compared them to my 044 as well. Seemed like those two were the same. Sthil Inc. really pulled out all rhe stops on the weight reduction train with the 462. So much so that they are overly nose heavy with a Stihl LW 32. 60cc class weight with 70/80cc power. And arboists's dream right there. Thanks for watching.
