First attempt at the 881 build... may go more aggressive but will have to see.. .these 881s are runners out of the box so im thinking it won't take much... also the coil swap i had mentioned has been done already so its not something I discovered... someone beat me to the punch... it happens to be the same coil I was going to try but I want to make it clear I wasn't the first to solve it... test run soon... I just wanted to acknowledge the coil update... I don't like to claim I came up with something if its been done... just didn't know 👍 bet your ass im still going to swap it tho 😉😁

i have gained compression by doing thinner base gaskets and pop up pistons with mild port work. I agree its still not as good a true built machined saw. ill get a metal lathe one day. thanks for all your info has helped alot.

Thank you John. Question: If one drops the cylinder, it automatically increases the intake duration, sometimes a bit too much, (which happened with one of my experiments) , , is there any way to correct that issue. I agree about machining, without it, one cannot optimize performance. [ I run it the way it is, (only a little blow-back at low RPM) ]

For sure u'r gonna gain much more compression by decking the cylinder, but for a "light" portwork like an absolute beginner like me would do deleting the base gasket is gonna be enough. My opinion, my ignorance apparently, but also Tinman's thinking.

I am now aware that some legendary saw guru has went rounds about this and I don't want to beat a dead horse its not me... The only way could see you gain any extra compression with out machining. Would be custom piston or different piston from another saw. But then your messing with all your other numbers. In the end are you saving money. Plus one saw maybe different than another. Basic in the end what the result. A runner or a turd.

150 is not bad but I will go in depth on it just know its all in love man... someone is feeding people a line of shit... trust me run one of my saws or the guys I know that build saws and its a different animal... 150 really isn't bad tho... that will get it done... I only run 185 to 195 which is decent but guys run way over 200 psi and I just do it different but the compression needs to be increased or you are just moving air... compression IS related to "power" its not everything and yes every "give" has its "take" but production guys want the saw to run big bars and get thru the cut fast and it takes compression to do it thats not hate its just true.. love ya Frank don't hate the messenger buddy

@@johnscustomsaws brother no hate. This is my first saw Ive rebuilt. I am learning from you and appreciate you sharing your knowledge. @@johnscustomsaws I remember reading that high psi can actually steal power since the engine has to work harder to compress that much air. High psi is good for mid torque but at high rpm losses power or something like that. I read that somewhere for 2 stroke performance.

As someone who uses multiple saws on a regular basis, I'm not understanding the point of a large saw running short bars. For a 20" bar I'd rather have a 50-60cc saw. Neat to see you building an 881. I have a 3120 with a 50" bar. The performance is underwhelming.

Idk why people think tightening squish numbers/raising compression wouldn't equal more power. It's very well known and proven in the racing engine world that a higher compression ratio equals more power (Nascar, drag racing, or anything you can think of) so why would anyone not think that it would give a saw more power?
