"The 8-Bit Big Band" is a 30-65 member Jazz/pops orchestra that formed to celebrate and realize some of the best themes from video game music from all consoles and eras arranged in a large ensemble Jazz/Pop/Rock setting!
Blending together timeless musical themes from Nintendo, Sega, Playstation, and more then re-arranging them in genres and styles of all musical inspirations, The 8-Bit Big Band has members from all around the world, but most reside primarily in New York City, and are some of the most highly sought after musicians and performers.

Not enough attention is given to how this guy does those tiny little pitch upticks that Frank did in the beginning of words. That's amazing attention to detail.

@@trickytreyperfected1482 I think they're talking about the sliding he does in the middle of words. It's less of an uptick and more of a slide down. Ex. "SINCEere right NOow." At 1:17. Before he moves the pitch down, Frank will sometimes extend the first syllable "high" note for a fraction longer before he moves down and that slight "lag" is really recognizably Sinatra. He's not raising the pitch at all- he's just lagging a bit behind the instrumentation before he moves it downwards.

@@empty2158 A middle school jazz band. That's why I can appreciate how much better these guys are. In defense of my jazz band experience, it was audition-only, and we practiced for an hour before school every week day. So we were a lot better than most other middle schools. Still, I'd love to join a community jazz big band someday.

The original guy who wrote this song, Jonathan Coulton, is sooo underrated. His albums Artifical Heart and Solid State are really wonderful. So much great songwriting on both of those albums.

Jonathan Coulton is such a great song writer, his lyrics are so great and the music he writes so perfectly suits them! I think it's a testament to great song writing when someones song can be re-imagined in so many different ways and still stand up dramaturgically so the fact that it works so well in this style is really just more proof that he is an amazing writer!

In my opinion it is truly the mark of a great song that it can be infinitely explored and reimagined in the most crazy ways and still hold up lyrically and melodically, thats a testament to the writing quality of its building blocks so huge shout out to Jonathan Coulton for providing the amazing framework for arrangers everywhere :)

I love how everyone in the band looks exactly like the kind of people you'd expect to see in a big band that plays jazz covers of video game songs. And then there's the drummer! You'r average trash metal band probably wouldn't hire him on grounds of him looking too scary.

look up some pictures of frank sinatra, he's actually wearing a pretty faithful example of frank sinatra's attire. he's missing a hat and tie but i don't think the man himself would scoff at the choice of coat

pretty good, but room for improvement. should have held the "Alive" to the end of the line, and sung it on the high note of the triad instead of the middle note at the end of the mid verses

I can imagine a villain dancing as he strolls through a building full of gunfire and chaos, and then the final chorus is where he leaves the building, it explodes, and the villain slowly walks away from the camera out of sight, not until he says, "I'm still alive, baby!" does the camera focus shrink to said villain and the screen ultimately turns completely black Edit: tf i wasnt expecting anyone to notice lol
