Still Bay - Ep1 - Palinggat Eels | Goukou River

EPISODE 1
Join us as we explore the interesting and beautiful Still Bay. We thought we knew Still Bay, but when we really explored there were so many new things to learn!
In this 1st of two episodes we visit the spectacular eels at Palinggat at the Blombos Archaeology Museum, as well as the beautiful Goukou river, with some ice cream along the way... Frikkie joined us on this trip.

I loved the way when Frikkie was swimming for all he was worth , his tail was also wagging for all it was worth too. Too Cute. Interesting to see the school room and all those things which were also around in the school room when I started school. we started on slates and with dipping pans - when we first progressed from pencil to ink. All in the last 70 years!And now look at classrooms! Its good to know you can get good ice cream at the petrol station,I have never been to Stillbaai but you make it very tempting!

Hi Penny, so nice to hear from you, we love bringing Frikkie along whenever we can, he is just such a joy to have around❤ I am fascinated with those tiny little ink pots in the little school it must’ve taken such skill to use them correctly and without making a huge mess!! …. Ahh guys I've caught up on all the videos I missed and this is by far my favourite recent one! I have such an affinity with the sea and this has made me so lus for the west coast again 😊 Absolutely love Frikkie and watching those sweet eels getting fed! Looks like paradise there! 🩷🩷🩷FRIKKIE👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 How wonderful to see Frikkie again and having the time of his life! Also lovely to see you both - you really feel like good friends to me, now 😁 This “educational tour” was absolutely fascinating and sooo well presented! Not ever having been to Stilbaai, I was quite unprepared for how just how beautiful it is and certainly had no idea of its paleolithic/stone age (?) history! Neither was I aware of the colony of eels, living so contentedly in their own, entirely natural pond. I really enjoyed “meeting” the individual, named eels and learning a little about them. I knew nothing about eels in general, other than that they are “slippery” 😄 Hearing that the village school children used to feed elephants sounded almost surreal - how thrilling that must have been! I also loved seeing inside the school room. It’s all so well preserved! Your early morning swim looked so enjoyable, Annelie and watching Frikkie enthusiastically swimming towards his proud Dad was such a joy 😁 you can tell Frikkie has more than won my heart! Glad you enjoyed your ice-cream, Werner - even though it was not your first choice. Just a lick, Annelie? Thank you again for taking me to another wonderful place I’m not able to visit in person. As I repeatedly say, you have a wonderful knack of really drawing me/us in, as though we really are enjoying it all with you - in person and in real time! I absolutely LOVE your channel 🩷🩷🩷👍🏻

Hi Des, yes! We are so pleased to have surpassed 300 subscribers now. We are keen to grow our channel, but the enjoyment in making the videos are already a great reward. Thanks so much for your dedicated interest and support of our channel. 😀. We appreciate it a lot! We are trying to get to a weekly publishing schedule for our videos. We will post the 2nd and final Still Bay video this Sunday (I think it will be better than the first one, certainly Frikkie is much more active in the 2nd video 😂), but may then have the sporadic 2 week gaps again to publish our videos. Annelie was incredibly fortunate to have grown up in the beautiful then village of Stilbaai...I see the town growing into another "Mosselbay" over the next 5 to 10 years as Semigration and other economic drivers including localised industry takes root. The current airfield perched on the hilltop is ideal for an upgrade for regional flights from both George and Cape Town or even Johannesburg. The Kasselshoop cheese range is produced outside Stilbaai and is available at Checkers. I remarked to my business partner the other day how industry in the small towns is growing, I had butter from Ladismith and Kasselshoop cheese on the table.

Thanks for your comments 🙂. Yes, Stilbaai has grown considerably in the past few years, but remains so beautiful… This does mean that the town and area has lots to offer visitors.
