Actually Still Life by Noel Coward was the original title and play. They just called the film Brief Encounter .

Cringeworthy.....! Did this start life as a Carry On script which was rejected as totally lacking in humour ? Then someone decided to pass it off as a " whimsical " comedy / drama..? Unfortunately like most " whimsical " comedy dramas it's painfully unfunny . Can only assume the writer had friends in BBC management ?....or compromising photos...??

No… ‘Still Life’ was the original Noel Coward play. ‘Brief Encounter’ was the later film adaptation.

It IS Noel Cowards Brief Encounter. As Janetteparr has already said. The original title as a play was Still Life.
