Where have you been? When it comes to findng a photography channel....this is the best I have found. I like how u do not talk about the big American photographers or typical bresson. Raymond Moore. Omg what a genius. I thank you 1000 times!!!!!

I am so thankful to have found your channel, Justin. Am feeling a bit overwhelmed with emotion actually. You've triggered something in me. Everything you say rings true with me, and gives me hope that I can develop my photography into something worthwhile. I'm very much looking forward to soaking up all the info you have generously shared on your channel. I see that your latest video posted was about a year ago, so I hope all is well with you. Thanks again. Steve.

I`ve been photographing for 12 years ,not because I am good ,but because I love it .Recently I`ve found myself depressed and down .Comparing myself to the sea of photographers out there .Even my friends have told me that my photos are pretty mediocre.I was devastated ,but then I realized a few things .Does it matter? I think not !! Thank you for this video ,it speaks the truth ...I have fallen in love again .

You have truly touched both my heart and mind when you explain your feelings and attitude about landscape photography. Your "shotgun" judgment is spot on. Thank you for your articulate explanations in this area and your willingness to say things that so many photographers simply do not get. I am a photographer among many photographers in my local area and most, if not all of them, long to make all those uber-beautiful postcards. Of course, it's none of my business what they shoot or value in photography, but they have no interest in challenging that ubiquitous and oh so boring view of what makes a creative landscape. So, thank you.

I come here from time to time to watch what I consider as one of the most interesting channels about art in photography. Maybe it's easier from me because they match my sensibility, even certain of your specific opinions. I felt less lonely about Michael Keena and I noticed that your critic was both balanced and honest. So, when I feel a bit lost in my work, I find here a safe place to rest and start again. I wish you came back but I respect your silence and maybe you consider that you delivered your message.

I just discovered your channel. I'm starting from the beginning with this introduction and I like what I hear. My Lord, I'm so sick of seeing the over saturated sunsets and landscape photography out there! The first of your videos I found was the one about Bob Ross and I'd had the same thought just earlier that day. It all reminds me of Thomas Kinkade paintings too! I'm looking forward to watching your videos about the ART side of photography. Thank you.

I’ve just come across your channel and I’m gonna say that you’ve just single handedly articulated everything I have ever wanted to say. As a photographer myself, who is about to do a personal project and then use it to inspire workshops for beginners in self expression through a non-technical form of photography (point and Shoot/attention keeping/cash converter avoiding/more instantly gratifying/one roll at a time restrictive fun) I wholeheartedly enjoyed this videos and very much share the same sentiment so thank you very much and if you wouldn’t mind, I would love to refer people to your page for this very reason. Thank you

Aaaalso I always think about a story. Someone once told me about it photography class in Blackpool which apparently was a revered place to study photography at one point (brought up in Southport nearby so this interest me a little) Anyway Apparently on the first day of this photography degree course, the class tutor gave everyone a camera and three rolls of film and told everyone to “ go out , shoot the beach the sunset, the pier and the seagulls et cetera, then bring the films back And let’s put them in the bin and then let’s get started” I feel that this person may also have shared the same sentiment !

Would you please write a book on the critical study of photographs and fill it with the things you talk about in these videos??? ; ) Or can you recommend one? I have my eye on "On Photographs" by David Campany. Do you have an opinion on that book? I don't know anything about him or that book but it sounds like it may be good. Thanks!

I recommend Susan Sontag, On Photography as a good, firm introduction to Photography: theory based ideas and interpretations. Its bold with an aggressive stance and is uncompromising in its detail. 👍

Hello. I subscribed to your channel today, after realizing I've watched and enjoyed a few of your videos. Expecting to watch them all, I decided to start at the beginning. The bad news is, (in my probably not very humble opinion) you do indeed come off as a touch arrogant and elitist, because you ignore a very salient reason for photography - the experience. My camera gets me out there. I do want to go to Iceland and experience the aurora. I do enjoy sunsets and grand vistas, and with my camera I am compelled to get out and see them and feel them in real time. Lets not forget the milky way. And while I'm here, I confess to being a sucker for long exposures and glassy water. It is what it is. The good news is that I do agree with most everything else you've said to a high degree. I do enjoy the landscape. I don't particularly care if its indoors or out. I enjoy visual stimulation and trying (in vain?) to make something out of (for anyone else) nothing. I am here to learn about artists I am unaware of, and if I'm lucky, learn how to focus my own ambitions within the medium. I don't know what to expect moving forward with your channel. I hope your choice of subjects is varied to a degree that it doesn't start to feel like a mirror image of you but instead a broadening of what is to be considered and enjoyed visually. I checked out your flickr page and find your images compelling and look forward to seeing more. Since you started in 2016 and it is now 2022 I wonder what's changed for you and what you've learned since. Thank you for being brave enough and smart enough (among other qualities) to start this channel.

What a breath of fresh air! Thank you. I have just watched this introduction and one or two other videos icluding 'On Landscape' and 'Fay Godwin'. Very interesting indeed and so very different to the vast majority of photography channels on You Tube and much needed as others have already said. In fact it was while I was researching Fay Godwin for the latest entry on my blog (alanfrostphotography.com/blog/) that I came across your channel and I am so pleased to have done so. I have been inspired by the work of Fay Godwin and another rural documentary photographer called Chris Tancock who is based in Pembrokeshire Wales. Do have a look at his site, I think you will enjoy doing so. I look forward to viewing more of your videos in the future.

Many thanks Alan. I created this channel essentially for myself, in order to understand a bit more about the mysteries of the photographic art, and I am so delighted other people have similar questions and find a resonance in what I am doing. I don't upload videos very frequently, but only when I have a nagging need which I hope makes the videos worth watching. I will certainly check out your blog!

Sir, Your video worth the time. Nowadays, eyes are bombarded by fast-food style short videos and candy-sweet photos. The empty right after the attention spike make user craving for next stimulation. Your perspective gave me an gentle notification to slow down and think about right here right now. Just login to say thank you! Carry on!

I think I told it in other places: this is a unique channel and the only one I found close to my own sight as filmauthor & Photographer. Finally I found the time to upload some pictures and what I call "Bildlegenden" (you find the clips under this expression), maybe you want to have a look. I read a short story to each photograph (in German: Bildlegende means the sentence you write under the picture), they are from my just now ready and new book DAS LAND - DORT DRAUSSEN IN MIR, I created engl. Subtitles by my own, hope you enjoy it. Greetings from Southwest Germany! Michel

These people who care about your ideas are the minority. So it is initially expected that there would be only a few subscrptions. but i think that is fine. That is what art is for, it is not for the public, even if it talks about wellbeing or meanings, or life, it not for all the lives.
@ericrobinson80786 жыл бұрын
Interesting concepts, but shooting a bit of b roll and a bit of editing would have made it easier for the viewer. You speak very well on photography but film/ video also has an aesthetic and visual rules, which you really do need to learn and use if you wish to dip your toe into film. It’s one of the things I really dislike about youtube, everyone thinks they can be a filmmaker! While I really support what you are doing as far as photography is concerned, please don’t ignore the moving image aesthetic.
