Well done Randy! When working with a fermented mash, I also found it was a pain to strain out the spent grains. What I do now is to use an HDPE plastic bucket drilled full of holes in the bottom. It fits part way in my straining bucket. Put the mesh bag in the smaller drilled bucket, ladle the mash and let it drip. This way you don’t have to hold the bag and you can put all the mash in at once. I learned this trick from wine making. You can also use the grain again with sugar and water and make a second batch. There is plenty of yeast left sticking to the grains. This is called a “sugar head” and makes some nice product.

Should be tasty! Save them fores Randy. Good sanitizer in a small squirt bottle... Or dump em in a baby wipes container. Great to use at stores (with no wipes upon entering) on shopping carts, doors, checkout punch pad. If you touch it, then wipe your hands with it. Repeat with hand sanitizer before getting into vehicle. Straight alcohol will dry the crap out of your hands. I use a hand lotion to prevent skin from cracking - lubriderm. I made a bunch of hand sanitizer with 94% ABV and Aloe Sun Burn Lotion (from Mal-Wart ;). Even looks like Purell. Clawhammer has a neat video how to make some. Cheer Randy!

Hi Randy, fermenting with the grains, does it enhance the flavor of the mash or do you do it for another reason. Thanks

Very interesting...In your opinion, is it worth it to ferment on the grain? I didn't find if there is a video of this finished Bourbon, how was it in the end?

I think that to ferment on the grain take a lot of room I have a 8 gallon still and I like 6 gallon mash I don’t think taste is any different off grain jus works better for me

Nice work there Randy, I cant wait to see the taste test on that one. yea we have the same still and mine also starts off at around 180 Fahrenheit and using gas burner.

Thanks i'm using gas but gearing up to go electric
@cameronshine34654 жыл бұрын
@@stillworksandbrewing yes electric is good , i use a 1400 watt element running on 240 volts, i use this for reflux , it takes an hour and 15 min to get it to produce.when I do a reflux with this still. The temp goes straight to 174 Fahrenheit the cooling water strength already set. There is really not much to do.
