Stimulating aerial roots on ficus bonsai

One of the things that make tropical bonsai pop for me is the presence of aerial roots. In this video I will show how one can go about growing aerial roots on a ficus bonsai during the growing season.

In my greenhouse with a transparant plastic bag all over the plant, you can create a massive amount of airial roots (or maybe I was lucky), nice video again Jelle!

if you want to trap moisture at the trunk you would be best wrapping with sphagnum moss, the same way you would make an airlayer :)

Plastic wrap works for me to get roots over my root over rock plantings. I have not been successful for gaining aerial root either. I believe temperature is my issue. I need to keep the trees warmer. The experiments continue!

I literally just uploaded a video on this topic a month ago! It’s gnarly to get aerials in a non tropical climate. Methods that have worked for me: -enclosing the entire tree in plastic and never fully watering it but rather frequently mist it -placing the trees in a relatively shady area of the balcony and placing a bucket with water right next to it -when putting trees inside in the winter put them into boxes that are filled with something like expanded clay. The humidity really makes roots grow
