l love the prog genre like Yes, Genesis, ELP ...but Sting was able to bring the so called ''punk'' sound together with JAZZ! No one else was able to do such a thing, and l LOVED his music! He seems like a bit of a jazz guy at heart. Excellent artist!

Saw Sting lice about ten years ago. One of the best concerts ever. The guy is a great guitarist too, not just a great bass player and singer. One of the best musicians to ever live.

The genious/talent it takes to 1.Write this quality of music 2.To sing like that while playing bass(especially on "Fortress Around Your Heart"). Damn!
@SimonRobeyns9 жыл бұрын
sam bergstein agreed, though he kinda fucked up at the beginning of fortress though, which is not something you're likely to see again

I was thinking that too! Those are not easy lyrics to sing over a bassline like that! Only thing equal to that in terms of bass plus singing lyrics has to be Paul McCartney singing 'Silly Love Songs' live in concert. Please check it out. Genius!

Vinnie is a good drummer but Stewart was the innovator of that style of drumming. I like sting solo but the magic that he made with Andy and Stewart is amazing!

Craig Williams WHAT style of drumming? Stewart got his style from jazz and reggae.

Vinnie is a legend in his own right. Stewart Copeland is the police

No disrepect to Vinnie but Stewart was just different. And yes the were inspired by Reggee but that doesn't mean he didn't innovate that into the police music in his own way.

Stings bass playing I feel is better than Darryl Jones on the record. But I miss Branford Marsalis' sax.
@radiozelaza Жыл бұрын
On the record it was Sting who recorded the part on Fortress (and also on Love Is The Seventh Wave). It was because Sting wrote Fortress late night in the studio when his Blue Turtles bandmembers were asleep. He laid down bass, guitar and drum sequencer tracks before morning came. You can clearly hear that it's not Daryll Jones's articulation in the bass playing on the album version of the song. But on the subsequent tour as heard on Bring On The Night documentary Daryll's bass parts in Fortress are clearly different, involving slap&pop technique
