He truly is the best musician ever. I am 41 and since I was an early teen, I have loved first the Police and later, Sting. His music is just absolute bliss. I have always wanted to thank him personally for all the joy, all the support his music has given me. I am sure there are millions of us who have been absolutely blessed by his being here on earth. No one will every match his genius. His music has gotten me through nearly three decades of life's negatives and positives. God bless him.

Sting is as classy as they come! As a lover of music, and a musician, I allow myself to enjoy, the stories that he is telling with his voice, and his music. Far too many critics, have taken apart his talents, and attempted to diminish the significane of his contributions, but years later, he's still standing, when many of those critics, have other careers!

This song means more as one gets older. When it came out, I listened to it and thought it was pretty good. But now later in life, my experiences show the real meaning of the song.

I still can't believe it's been 25 years since this song came out. Sting is still amazing. Read one of his books if you want to be truly amazed at how gifted this person is.

Sting's so intense in this video. How he just stares into the camera is so powerful. Every frame is just golden, and when he cracks the smile at the end - platinum quality!

The chord changes in this song are absolutely spectacular. Also, Branford Marsalis' soprano sax fits perfectly.

Jeez everyone... Sting is brilliant. You may think he's cocky, or whatever have you, But he is an artist, And the music he's made sure has been, and will continue be beautiful.

Yup, he is one hell of an artist. Very under-rated in my opinion. This guy has more talent in his little finger than the majority of "artists" today have in their whole body.

Every time I listen to this song over the years, I discover new meanings. Many people accuse Sting of being superficial, but they aren't listening.

I just think it's so cool that there was a time when this type of pop music - gloomy, intellectual and loaded with jazzy colors, and far from the music that was dominating the airwaves and MTV at that time - would get airplay and played on MTV. I've always loved this song.

This man has been my constant crush through the years. That eyebrow raise at 3:42 gets me everytime, God it feels like he's singing this right to you...he's 34 here, I'm 34 now,is it possible to be in love with someone from 21 years in the past through a video...well, hopefully my husband won't see this comment.

Splendid. This could be the best Sting's song in his solist career...after The Police's break up, He's a great composer, I think. "Synchronicity" was the best 80's album ever.

I've always liked this song. Sting has something to say in his songs, and it doesn't hurt, tht he has a band of superb muxicians and singers to make his point. R.I.P. Kenny Kirkland. He was an amazing pianist/keyboardist. I still miss his flow.

It's so crazy how just hearing a song from your past can totally transport you back in time. From the second this tune begins I can feel myself being in the year 1985 and it's soccer season of my junior year of high school and I felt so free and had my whole future ahead of me..... so weird!!!!!

what a beautiful video. simple, clean, and emphasizing the beautiful aesthetics of Sting's face. I think Sting is underrated as a musician. I mean artists like the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen, and James Brown have received more acclaim then Sting. Great artist and songwriter.

Wikipedia quotes a magazine interview with Sting. He said it was about the pain caused by the breakup of his first marriage, and also said this: "'Fortress' is about appeasement, about trying to bridge the gaps between individuals. The central image is a minefield that you've laid around this other person to try and protect them. Then you realise that you have to walk back through it. I think it's one of the best choruses I've ever written."
