I may well have posted before , but this could be on my Desert Island Discs choice. So good Musically, Situationally and Emotionally.

wonderful. and at 3:46 you can see Stan's longtime repairman in Boston, the one and only Emilio Lyons - a true gentleman.

Gary, hope you read this. Saxophone greats, Jaws, Stan, Ben, Cannonball, Hodges, Dexter, Zoot, Tubby. Jaws was it for me. Gary, are you Italy? Uk? Where? I am like you, I play because of Jaws, rather than Getz. Wish we could communicate!

Getz had such an amazing rhythmic sense, like at 2:20. And I love the Criss-Cross (Monk) quote at 3:00. Four musicians at the top of their game. What a treat. Thanks for posting this (and the others from this set).

Nom de Zeus, quelle rythmique! Et avec Stan Getz au sax ténor, c'est tellement bon que ça devrait être illégal. :-)

100 thumbs up (I've got a lot of thumbs). For those who don't know, the Charles Hotel is located a few blocks from Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. The Charles also houses jazz concerts indoors on the second floor in the so-called Regattabar.

What a treasure. Thanks. Just think if you hadn't videoed that, it would be gone! So so vitally important! Is this Paris, France or Paris Texas? What does he say to the young girl at the end?

He says: "That's a good tempo for you to dance."

I always was on the road myself playing Latin Jazz, so I never had time to take In a concert. I understand from someone who knew him, that he wasn't the All- American Mr. nice guy. I was told that he had his Demons as In Heroin and Alcohol, which lead to his demise in 1990. That was sad to hear and It broke my heart. Such a great talent and he basically does away with himself. He gave the world some beautiful music before leaving, and I can't thank him and yourself enough for this beautiful music! Keep up the good work Steve!

I'm a trumpet, not a sax guy, but Emilio, I know, was the man. He used to carry Get's horn for him and hand it to him on stage.
@blueyedboymrdeath5 жыл бұрын
@@stinging I once happened to be at Rayburn Music when Getz came in to pick up a horn from Emilio. Long time ago, but I remember it was a silver-plated Selmer tenor with pale green pads. Can't remember much else, but that was one pretty horn! (Yeah, I am a sax guy, and some years later had an overhaul on my own horn by Emilio. He was coating pads with something to make them last, I found out at that time. He offered a choice of 2 colors, IIRC - I chose blue.)
@stinging5 жыл бұрын
@@blueyedboymrdeath Yes, Emilio was the go-to guy for sax players. I saw him carry Getz's horn around at the gig.
