Thanks for the update, I remember that other video. Must be nice to be able to work on the hive without all the suits and stingers!

Wow, these are so interesting Jeff! You're so lucky to be able to work with these. Beautiful little bees. I'd love to be able to but I don't believe it possible where I am. You truly are blessed. Great information for people to know, Thank you for sharing Jeff! Cheers from South Dakota, USA! 🌾 Green Blessings 🌿

Thanks Jeff. I lost a hive that just gradually got too weak. I wish I had have known the "swap the hives" trick. I could have saved them. Ah well, I know now!

Hi McD, your welcome.

Jeff you are truly a master beekeeper, I learned a lot of great tricks from you about beekeeping and baking bread :). I have shut down my beekeeping as I will be moving to the Philippines in a few months. I found it was very difficult to get beekeeping supplies there and they are also over priced when you can get them. I just started to think about stingless bees, because there is little need for things to be bought to care for them. And low and behold I find your stingless bee videos. You are the greatest. Thanks!! Oh do you know of a link to hive plans for stingless bees?

They are beautiful little bees. Since they are stingless, how do they protect themselves?
@GLRAKER8 жыл бұрын
What type of bees are they? And can you show a vid of a large healthy hive? Thanks Mate.....

If you move a weak hive to say a friends house, far distant from yours, with a different bee smell, in late spring, early summer. Then there's a good chance it will get taken over from existing bees in that area by a fighting swarm. This gives you a new free strong hive with a different smell you can use as a lure/bait box for bees in your area & others, after splitting it again to make it weak.

Great update Jeff. My question is, now the hive has built up to the top of the box, will they be looking for a bigger box?
@mugsyjeff8 жыл бұрын
Hi MindyLou, that's a great question:) The brood your looking at is "late stage" brood, for want of a better term. These bees keep on renewing their brood comb. Once the brood reaches the top, the bees at the bottom of the brood would have already hatched, leaving a void. So once the bees reach the top they start building at the bottom again in that void with what we call an "advancing front". In a matter of time, the brood visible in this video will hatch, followed closely by the new advancing front. Now, the brood in the advancing front will be covered in wax. After the larvae reaches the point where it spins a cocoon, the bees remove the wax, exposing the cocoons which is what is visible in this video. The wax on the new brood is much darker (because of the wax) in color that the brood in this video.

Interesting Jeff, where do the native bees store their honey...in combs?
@isaacmayer96257 жыл бұрын
No, they store their honey (sugarbag) in the dark structures (or pots) around the brood.
