A couple nice catches and some good info on preparing that Ray. I've heard mixed results and your comments seem to be what most say, not bad, but LOL Great job and thanks for sharing!

Interesting cook up, Steve! Reminds me of many years ago when I prepared a skate in a similar fashion. Like you, I concluded that it had its own unique flavour.

@franksaunders6534 just something I've wanted to try for many years. I can tick it off the list now.

I did a stingray years ago ,cooked it with some honey , very different and was not to bad quite nice .

Seemed to be a little challenging in preparation yet being as proficient with the knife as you are the fillets turned out pretty well. The texture certainly was interesting but for me….hard to beat the humble flattie. Not sure if I will give it a go but may one day. I think you need to ask Santa for a collapsable bucket to take with you to ensure those fillets don’t get lost in the wash….LOL!
@SteveOutside9 күн бұрын
@Mark-ew5jm doesn't compare with Flathead, doesn't even compare with salmon. But you're shipwrecked on an island, and you're able to spear one... it will keep you alive. Lol

Years ago got a big banjo in ppb .Found you get two nice fillets from tail. I reckon it tated like flake.

@kevinbombardier yeah I'm sure not all flake in the fish n chips shops is Gummy.

Top stuff mate, I've never filleted stingray before ive only ever had it cooked with the skin on and peel the skin back lot's of lemon squeezed on it, then use a fork and slide the meat off the cartilage 😋, I might give it a go ur way next time, As always ur Cook-ups r mouth watering 🤤, Till the next video stay safe and Tight Lines Steve 👍🎣

I tried the skate many years ago and was not impressed at all but years later I tried the Eagle ray and likened it to flake ( not gummy ) and quite liked it but it’s not up there by any means with the other delights from the sea,cheers mate🎣

Did not realize that posts with a link get automatically deleted so I try again. Did see skate for sale at D’nong market about a month ago, always have sand crabs there for $13 kilo. Last Sunday big ones 10 dollars more. On my last trips to Guna it’s the only thing I got tangled on my lines. Talked to some people there targeting them. Will you have a try at them? I mean catch and cook.

That stingray looked interesting, could you fillet and eat any kind or just the eagle ray? I have caught many different ones over the years and often thought of trying them, but was never brave enough lol. Possibly you could do this with banjo sharks as well. Great video as usual thank Steve ,tight lines for now

Interesting. 🤔 I've only recently got used to the idea of eating (Gummy) Shark, so don't think I'm ready for Stingray?! How does the taste compare to that of Gummy shark?
@SteveOutside9 күн бұрын
@Johan-ex5yj i found it quite similar to gummy.. a little bit milder in taste. Different texture though.

Johan give it a go , any ray cook up ok , if you don’t try it you will never know and your missing out on the adventure part of it 😜. In the end if you don’t like it at least you can say first hand you have tried it, but then again you might actually like it , it’s a stringy meat not like fish in my opinion , I cooked mine in honey ,look around for some recipes have a go .👍

Brilliant SteveO. Mate, Can I ask this of you. You know that section of the flap which you discarded, why not use it as bait, or crushed up into a burley mix. Oh Yeah, I loved that FLATTIE you caught mate. FLATTIES are my favourite fish followed by the King George Whiting which runs neck and neck with Octopus/Squid and cuttle fish for me. Cheers mate. Love the sound of the rain on your roof. Cannot hear a bloody thing with tiles on the roof. Stay safe mate!

@angus-eats i can't see cartilage and skin being good bait..maybe be alright in a burley mix i guess? (If you can be bothered mincing it up) Cheers mate 👍
