Even though the original Dead Rising had the smallest "world" of the franchise, it felt more alive than any of it's sequels (DR2 to a lesser extent than 3/4). Bigger doesn't mean better.

I actually haven't played DR1 yet. Kinda just bought it on Xbox One. But I have played DR2 and 3. So I can't really judge well. BUT, I do agree with the sentiment. So many games insist on bigger worlds, but then the don't fill it with interesting stuff. Just Cause is the best example I can think of. I'd rather a smaller map if it means more detail and more stuff to do.

Shut Up Nerd The best example I can think of is how detailed the world was in GTA 4 compared to 5. I remember just being so much more immersed in 4 than I ever was in 5

this is the golden standard of detailing in video games and it's from 2006. There is absolutely no excuse why games today, or at least AAA entries, can't achieve or even exceed this level of detail.

Super Kamehameha well I don't know much but find the 3 health books first but find every food you can and to make it longer wait till your health bar depletes to one bar then eat the food that will give all of your health (cooked pizzas, cooked steak, orange juice etc) but the best way to play it is on level 50 so you have more health and more inventory. Well that's it for tips and such, good luck on your run man.

I would have loved to see the developers create each and every room and see what their thoughts were while doing so. Like with the guitar picks in the music shop. Not many people pay that much attention to detail and they knew they wanted to make the mall a real life place as much as they could.

i still cant believe how well this game holds up after so long, especially having done an LP of the game last year with a friend. like the look and feel and good control, its like the stars aligned for this game or something. DR2 felt like a far cry from its predecessor to me, only really feeling like it had remnants of what it used to be already, it wasnt bad and yet it was missing that "certain something" that only the first game had.

while on survivor, i was camped in the cultist theater and couldn't help but notice the wiring was proper for the spotlights. they all ran (presumably) backstage. also, in the gun shop where you meet Cletus, a lot of the ammo and accessories are labeled properly and quite detailed. someone on the team had extensive firearms knowledge lol.

the amount of love and detail that Dead Rising 1 got is simply amazing. I remember playing this game back in 2007 when I finally got an xbox 360 (along with lost planet). It was a great time and I am happy I was able to experience gaming right before it all went to hell with all the insane shady practices and political fights that exist in modern gaming. I've always noticed that these days companies are always trying to achieve the best graphics possible while in the same time cutting corners cost wise. When it comes to details in the environment, its always the first to get cut. If the player aint gonna be lookin at it for more than a minute than it aint worth detailing.

Dead Rising should be a case study for game designers as to how to create a believable world. Everything is oozing with personality. There are fictional brands, music, towns, and even super heroes. This game was magical to me as a kid because it felt like I was in a real world that existed, and went beyond the Willamette mall.

Hey STiP0, just wanted to say hi as a new sub, and let you know that I think your videos are great, but your philosophy and attitude towards DR1, and DR as a whole are really excellent. We seem to totally share opinions on the whole series, and I'm really glad you go to all this effort to preserve DR1, and make sure whatever legacy it retains stays. Here's hoping you get another huge influx of new subs like me, and grow exponentially! It'd be great to have such an authoritative figure in the DR fan-base with such an influence reaching thousands more. I guess we can only hope Capcom get their heads out of their asses and bring us another deep, rich zombie experience, rather than a cheap hack and slash with some zombies in it and other assorted nonsense. Love everything you do! Keep fighting the good fight. Capcom are the real zombies.

I'm glad there's people who appreciate things like this. For example Cod IW has some great details in the maps that make them seem realistic. Multiplayer shooter maps don't really need to have much thought on details but in IW every room has a lot of suitable furniture and tech in them. You can take a look at every comouter screen or radar found on the maps and they all have stuff going on. It's spectacular.

Reminds me of Deadly Premonition in a way personally, I love that both are these tiny open worlds that you get intimately familiar with over the course of the game (as opposed to say, something like GTA V or Skyrim where the map is impressively massive, but the story doesn't use most of it) that are chock full of interesting and silly details when you look close.
