My grandpa loved this movie and Peter Sellers. When he started to get Alzheimers and couldn't even recognize me anymore, I would play this movie for him and it was like he was his old self again by actually paying attention and laughing. He passed a few years ago, but this movie holds a special place in my heart. THAT was the comic genius of Peter Sellers.

For those ( below ) who doubt that Sellers was a comic genius, compare his Clouseau with Steve Martin's. The latter is unquestionably a great comic actor, but when his performance is put next to Peter Sellers' ( and I'm sure he'd agree to this himself ) is really quite inferior - almost amateurish. Sellers was simply the best. And indubitably a genius.

Quite s. Quite so! Having laughed to the point of sore belly muscles watching peter's panthers and usually briught tobtears watching steve martin's comedic work, i assumed I'd hit the jackpot when I bought the DVD of Mr martin's version. I thought nkno sat thru the entire disk, repeatedly telling myself, "this will get hellsrious any moment-its The pink Panther. It's steve Martin. There's n way it can't be nearly unbearably finny! Sadly, at least for me it barely ever reached even mildly humorous. Sorry,. Mr. Martin 'They' say , theres no accounting for taste."- maybe my taste was a bit off when i watched that one! be fair, Peter Sellers really created Cluseau. Wrapping any other actor around that character and having work out successfully is about as likeky as putting a Leppard skin coat on a zebraand convincing anyone who sees it that its actually a leopard! I doubt anyone ehi saw the irugional version of "The Jerk" would find Peter sellers playing Navin R. Johnson to be equal to steve Martin's portrayal. It doesn't mean ine us a better comic actor than the other - only that each fits different roles than the other. similar thing happens in music, when cover versions of grest songs are attempted - no matter hoe talentted and otherwise successful the artists whi try often fail miserablt at doing a satisfying civerof the work of others. For example, i csn think of exactly one cover of any Beatles song being any good at all - that being neil Young and gis playing "A Day in the Live live in concert a few years ago paul McCartney was back stage during the performanceand came out on stage after and fully pristrated himself bowing at Neil's feet. Not everyone agrees that it was a truely successful cove, but Paul's response alone suggests it came pretty close. I heve heard no other cover of a beatles song that was anything other thsnembarrassing. I'm not trying to make a oarticularlybabout Neil Young, or about the beatles, inly that performing artists sometimes create works which stubbornly resist as ny attempts if others, tegsrdkess of talent or skill to do justice by - no shame on steve Martin gor pulling up short with Cluseau when compared next to Peter Sellers!

Funny. All Peter Sellers bits are great. But the BEST scene of his...The "Monsieur, does your dog bite?" scene.
