"Stirring Things Up!" Diane Abbott Not Barred From Standing As Labour Candidate

Julia Hartley-Brewer questions whether Diane Abbott is just “stirring things up”, after Keir Starmer confirmed the MP hasn’t been barred from standing as a Labour candidate.
The possibility that Abbott, who in 1987 became the first black woman elected to Parliament, could be blocked from standing is the latest sign of Sir Keir’s willingness to pick a fight with the party left.
Ms Abbott initially appeared to confirm she had been blocked from standing, but then said she was upset about “numerous reports” suggesting she had been barred.

The main issue here has been completely overlooked. Starmer has not used due political processes. He does what he wants and he doesn't want left wing politicians challenging him. This is not democratic. 37 years as a Labour MP and ditched with no real reason! Put your personal comments aside (and consider where they're from and if they're actually true or if it serves someone/a group by having you adopt these views?) and look at what this type of action means for all of us. Can we really put the people of this country safely in Starmer's hands? Lastly - this is not journalism!

Dianne Abbott may play the race card, but simply the Labour Party may simply just want to select an energetic younger candidate of the future. At 70 she wants to be selected again, when the majority of MPs have retired. Don't forget as a younger candidate nearly 40 years ago Abbott displaced an older Labour MP, and now she herself should recognise her time has come. The Labour Party wants to select a younger candidate with a future ahead of them, rather one with a tarnished past with limited future prospects.

It is really up to Ms Abbot to get on board with the programme. I hope that she grasp the opportunity but her posturing this week suggests that she is more inclined to stay rogue. My Mum was a member of the labour Party for decades. In 1986 she did teaching exchange at a school in Kansas City and lived in a black neighbourhood. When she left, a black neighbour told her "You're the first white person I've ever met who isn't racist and it's because you're British". Fast forward to the 2010 Labour leadership election. My mum was going through the paperwork and asked me who I thought she should vote for. I asked who was standing. She turned over pages of the documentation saying, "Well, there's Ed Miliband, David Miliband, Andy Burhnam, I'm not for Diane Abbott, she's a racist b***h". Abbott also, on national television, justified Chairman Mao's slaughter of 60 million people (as does John McDonnell). Genocide is fine if it's their side committing it (which explains their support for Hamas).
