I have a Rapala fillet knife that I shoved through the front of the sheath and into my hand about 2 inches. Hard lesson learned, don't get in a hurry putting your knife in its sheath.

Bees Wax! Great idea! Did you know that they make a antibiotic ointment out of Bees Wax and Pine Pitch? You can rub it in like any other suave with a saddle soap consistancy.

Im still a huge fan of a flapped knife shesth ,now if you took one of those and added a good flap with a solid snap ,or other type of keep id be much more intetested .

Good point. I am also a fan of a flapped sheath. I may talk to Randy about a design like that.

There is a video about water proofing leather. I think he used silicone caulk with acetone to a water consistancy then brush it on like paint. Mainly the video was about boots, but it will treat any leather the same way, and even add a little stiffness to it.🙂👍

I like to melt beeswax and lather it on especially the stitching. I’ve also made a leather treatment with black walnut oil and beeswax and it works very well. Also works on treating wood. Good stuff keep em’ comin!

That sounds interesting with the walnut oil. I’ll have to research that. Thanks for the tip!

The first sheath is a "Chrome" tanned leather. The third is a "Veg" tanned. Two completely different leathers. The one between looks like a lighter thickness of veg tanned that has been treated with something that makes it a bit more flexible but not soft.

Thank you for all you do. You got me into trapping. Ordering all my supplies and already know what an over loaded snare cable looks like. I am paranoid about one thing though. I ordered a spool of 1000 ft 1x19 1/16 cable and the spool looks half empty than the advertisement photo. do you by any chance know how much a full spool of this cable weights? thank you for all you do.
@Meattrapper9 ай бұрын
Remember that spools are not sized to the cable. That is a spool is a spool and then they wrap cable on it, so a spool wrapped with thick 1/8” cable will be full while the same spool wrapped with 1/16” cable will not be as full. Also, most websites just use a stock photo and not a real pic.

How to measure off the ground size for fence snare where wild boar crawling under fence . Plsss reply
@larryschmidt35949 ай бұрын
That stitched gear is the only properly made sheath you showed. Any sheath should be good 9-10 oz vegetable tanned leather. Bees wax and olive oil mix has been used for centuries to treat and waterproof leather. Used for leather canteens and such.

Hi I love your videos.An idea that I recently heard is that if one is in a survival situation the only things that you will have is what is in your pockets.I find this really realistic.So in order to make snares some natural cordage would be needed.do you think that this is possible and how would the law view such a thing.

Interesting but i prefer kydex. I do more fishing and messing around rivers. Kydex is better in all conditions. If you want leather you can add leather over the kydex. I also like how kydex can be changed to carry on either side. Leather just doesn't hold up in my experience especially after a few days wet. Just a FYI.

@Meattrapper ahhh fuck! Yeah it's a cold hearted bitch with a 12" strap on. Hahaha I hope you're winning the fight! Are you still selling those books? Did the 3rd book come out yet? Last I checked it said coming soon, or something like that. Please stay strong. I seriously appreciate what you do on here. Your channel is the reason I got into trapping.
