Hard to beat a good blind set. Its like how i run baut atations up in mn for coyotes. I have fot to the point where i dont waste my time anymore setting traps near the bait. Set snares heavily on all approach trails and trails that circle the bait only and watch the catch rate go up. I usually place a 5 gallon bucket baitsicle then let us sit 2-3 nights when we have snow. When walking in, anywhere that has 2 sets of tracks gets a galvanized zip tie hung from it.

Conibears are made more for blind sets imo. Bucket sets like that will work a lil better if you brush it in. It all comes down to breaking up the profile of the trap. Some traps will out perform others in certain sets but there’s not one trap you can use in every situation. For instance you wouldn’t want to use a foothold trap in front of a beaver den entrance if it’s 4 foot under water. And you also wouldn’t want to use a Conibear at a dirt hole set for coyotes. It really all comes down to your target animal and what kind of sign your gonna set on. I appreciate your videos good luck out on the line this season.

Makes me wonder if setting a bodygrip infront of den holes that are simultaneously guarded by footholds is the ticket... they spend and awful lot of foot steps out front trying to figure it out.

I caught 3 raccoons (incidental catches) in a 160 bucket earlier this year. I used dry cat food for bait and placed the 160 upside down with the trigger on the backside so the animal would have to go a little further into the trap for a better head catch. I target woodchuck, skunks and possums giving me trouble on my small property. I've also caught 46 woodchucks in 8 years with the 160 over their den hole. I reset immediately after a catch. Got 3 so far this year. Got 5 last year. Best year was 9 chucks.

I stepped into a snare trap when walking in the forest, it pulled my foot up and I lost balance. Its must have been made for a large animal as it was very strong. It was difficult to escape cos my smooth soled boot kept slipping on the damp sloping and leafy ground, stopping me from standing up. I wore the wrong footware, not expecting to slip in a trap.

Hey Tim, I'd bet the Belisle would have done better if it was brushed in. Although you were demonstrating the need if footholds in this video. Even if the set catches, there will be predators looking for a free meal and footholds will get you bonus catches.

I've heard you say that you use lure and baits but then after watching all your KZbin you say it would change or alter the gate or their behavior so what is it bait lures or NOTHING
