Had this on a blank video cassette with Evil Dead 2. Now THERE'S a double-feature! Fun fact: In Peter Jackson's "King Kong", there's a scene where someone goes down to the cargo hold of the ship and there's a crate that's carrying the Rat Monkey (as mentioned on the sign).

Makes it even better given this film has the opposite where the ship is implied to have visited skull island with the same name of the ship

When I was a kid and got to rent a VHS at the local gas-station/video store, I always took a peek in the dark corner where all the horror-films where hidden away. Among all the covers, the one for Braindead stood out, depicting Lionel and his lawnmower covered in blood, with zombies with outstretched arms surrounding him. That cover fascinated me for years, and whenever I went home with Rock-a-Doodle, Prehysteria or Jurassic Park, I always wanted to take Braindead with me as well, but I knew I wouldn't be allowed. So it was a grand day when I finally got to rent it when I turned 15. And whatever images that cover had made me dream up all those years, the actual film was even wilder, and way funnier, than I had imagined.

I'm so glad, that you finally reviewed Brain Dead! My dad's favorite genre of movies was horror. He & my mom had me watching horror movies with them, starting when I was 3 years old. But, when I had my dad watch Brain Dead with me, about 20 years ago, it was too much even for him. Lol. I'd already seen it before. But, Brain Dead and especially the party scene, at the end of the movie, had my dad turn to me and say "Is this the kind of sick shit, that you like?" Lol. My best friend played a trick on his wife, during her watching Brain Dead with him. He'd already seen it before. So, he made vanilla pudding, before watching it with her. Just as the lunch scene, where the pus & ear fall into the pudding begins, he gave his wife the vanilla pudding to eat. While eating the pudding and watching the scene, his wife began gagging and nearly vomited. Lol. After I told my dad about the trick my friend played, on his wife, he said "Now I see why you & him best friends. You both like sick movies and have a sick sense of humor." Lol.

When you think about it, many of the greatest directors of all time started out on low budget movies. Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi, James Cameron. It's like there's something about producing a film on such a low budget that moulds a person into a great film maker. They started out by proving that quality doesn't need a big budget.

Hell yeah, that's one of my favorite zombie flicks right next to The Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Living Dead (1990) and Day of the Dead. Also this flick is cartoony like Gremlins 2, Freddy's Dead and Army of Darkness.

Back when Peter Jackson knew how to get to the point and just where to stick it. Unpopular opinion: I think Bad Taste is the better movie while Braindead is the better experience. There are just too many scenes of "We don't know what we'll do next because we don't know what we're doing now".

3:45 Ah, now I know where that quote came from. I heard that sound clip as censorship from Dario Casali’s livestreams. He’s the guy along with his brother Milo who worked on the 2nd half of Final Doom called The Plutonia Experiment.

I remember the first time I saw Dead Alive. I would always watch those, counting down, "the best horror movies of all time" shows, they played on tv at halloween. Dead Alive was always top ten along w The Evil Dead, which has become one of my favorites. So I decided to watch Dead Alive a few years later when I saw it for $3. I must've been 16 years old. I spent most of the movie very confused, up until the ending with the lawnmower scene and I just burst out laughing and could not stop the rest of the movie. I finally got the joke. The over the top comedic violence was just so damn crazy 😂 bravo Peter. I still cant believe this is one of his early films. Im really looking forward to that remaster. Thanks for the review, Stitched!

I've heard about that too Andy that Jackson has plan to release this early films blu-ray and 4K Bad Taste, Meet The Feebles, and Dead Alive aka (Brain Dead) I wonder if Jackson will do the Romero route by releasing all 3 version of dead alive the heavily butchered 85min theater cut, the Jackson seal of approval 97min unrated cut, and the complete version 104min director's cut. And what do you and everyone else think Jackson should work with for his blu-ray and 4K releases Shout Factory, Arrow, Severin, or Vinegar Syndrome.

I don’t know about the butchered version but the 97 and 104 minute versions would be nice.

@@StitchedTogetherPictures The 85min version has almost all the gore removed of the movie I saw that version and well loved 97min one at a video rental years ago. As for the 104min director's cut you can find it on youtube somewhere with the original title Braindead.

My first exposure to Peter Jackson was the Lord of the Rings, so going through his back catalog and watching Bad Taste and this? Bit of a shock. Good fun tho
