When I was a kid and got to rent a VHS at the local gas-station/video store, I always took a peek in the dark corner where all the horror-films where hidden away. Among all the covers, the one for Braindead stood out, depicting Lionel and his lawnmower covered in blood, with zombies with outstretched arms surrounding him. That cover fascinated me for years, and whenever I went home with Rock-a-Doodle, Prehysteria or Jurassic Park, I always wanted to take Braindead with me as well, but I knew I wouldn't be allowed. So it was a grand day when I finally got to rent it when I turned 15. And whatever images that cover had made me dream up all those years, the actual film was even wilder, and way funnier, than I had imagined.

I'm so glad, that you finally reviewed Brain Dead! My dad's favorite genre of movies was horror. He & my mom had me watching horror movies with them, starting when I was 3 years old. But, when I had my dad watch Brain Dead with me, about 20 years ago, it was too much even for him. Lol. I'd already seen it before. But, Brain Dead and especially the party scene, at the end of the movie, had my dad turn to me and say "Is this the kind of sick shit, that you like?" Lol. My best friend played a trick on his wife, during her watching Brain Dead with him. He'd already seen it before. So, he made vanilla pudding, before watching it with her. Just as the lunch scene, where the pus & ear fall into the pudding begins, he gave his wife the vanilla pudding to eat. While eating the pudding and watching the scene, his wife began gagging and nearly vomited. Lol. After I told my dad about the trick my friend played, on his wife, he said "Now I see why you & him best friends. You both like sick movies and have a sick sense of humor." Lol.

When you think about it, many of the greatest directors of all time started out on low budget movies. Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi, James Cameron. It's like there's something about producing a film on such a low budget that moulds a person into a great film maker. They started out by proving that quality doesn't need a big budget.
