@@stitchesbyjulia I lost my black lab mix dog this year in May. Riley was his name and he was almost 12 years old. But my daughter has a dog, a dainty dog that was in much pain with our minus five degrees weather last week so I need to get some booties made for him. She bought a pair of cute pink ones even though he is a boy dog and she put one on and he just whipped his foot and it flew right off. 😂

I've just made two pairs of these for my dogs: for the 2nd pair, I modified by making them taller and added a second strap higher up on the bootie to hold it in place and keep the snow out- works pretty well!! I also sewed a zigzag on the raw edge (the flared part) to keep the fabric from fraying (did this as first step). Great tutorial, thank you!!

I can't thank you enough for sharing this tutorial!!! I live in Florida and it is mind-blowing how furbabies are made to walk on scalding pavement. I'm hoping the owners don't realize the danger of burning the doggie's pads. I will be making and donating these. I've seen owners scolding their babies that are jumping around as their pads are scorching. This is just my way of educating. I'm not a sewer, but I can do this :)

The hot glue gun might make good grips, but I think it would feel like walking on Pebbles. I tried this in the bathtub, to make like a slip free bottom, and I had to take them out. Then you also have caught the problem of the dog chewing on them, and swallowing them.🤓

I don't know if it's just me but when my hair in the opposite directions that in which it grows, it bothers me. I would think this the same for the dog's hair when you put the boots on. I would want to smooth out their foot hair to make it more comfortable. 🤓

I made these for my dog, and they worked great! Thanks for posting this! I ordered a pair from Amazon, and Sadie did not like the stiff rubber bottoms. I cut the bottom off, and replaced it with Lycra!

Hi, The same thing happened to my brother's dog. He ordered the ones with the rubber bottoms and his dog refused to move! Ha! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and gave it a try. I did find that I had to replace the boots every year because of wear and tear but they really help keep the snow out of Greta's paws. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Julia

I'm thinking of using two layers, an inside layer of fleece and an outside layer cut from rubber dishwashing gloves --do you think that would work? offer grip and add a waterproof layer with the fleece for warmth?
@stitchesbyjulia6 жыл бұрын
Definitely worth a try. These boots do get wet. My sweet Greta was older and did not walk very far in her older years but these boots really helped keep the snow from packing in her paws. She really learned to like them. Enjoy your dog-we really miss Greta!

We got a pool and for the first time in his life (he’s four) my dog took interest in swimming, I’m going to make him some little shoes so his claws don’t pop the pool or tear the liner! Do you think a swimsuit material would work for that?
@musicbirds54644 жыл бұрын
And his claws aren’t too long, if you’re worried 😅 he’s just a mastiff mix so he has huge paws and we don’t want him to accidentally tear a hole in the pool
@stitchesbyjulia4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I would give the swimsuit material a try. You may need 2 layers. I'm a little concerned about him slipping so really watch him getting out. Thanks for watching, Julia

first thanks for the video. I have some questions about the noots: Are they waterproof? and does the paws get sweaty in it?
@stitchesbyjulia7 жыл бұрын
Hi, The fabric I used is not waterproof however you can use the same method with a waterproof nylon fabric. My dog is older and we don't walk more than 1/2 mile at a time. These boots really help in sub zero weather. Without the boots she constantly lifts her feet. I haven't noticed any sweating but we don't go very far :) There is breathable nylon fabric. Hope this helps. Julia

@stitchesbyjulia7 жыл бұрын
If you are concerned with the booties getting wet, change to a nylon fabric. I use the fleece booties when the temperatures are sub-zero and my dog can't be out to "potty" without lifting her feet. We only go for short walks when the temperature is that cold. The fleece booties work wonders.

stitchesbyjulia oh goodness Julia I am so sorry! Greta was your family member. My heart goes out to you. It’s been 8 years since my last dog passed away of old age, at the same time my first Child was born and I was not ready until now to get another dog. I had my Addie since she was a three month old puppy until she was 13, essentially she was actually my first Child so to speak. They hold such a strong place in our hearts. It hurts so much to let them go. I explained to my children how long our new puppy will live and they did not like that truth. Yet the short time we have with them is so rich and colorful, full of good memories that never leave us. I will keep you in my prayers during this time of mourning Julia.
