I have made a dozen folding knife, chisel, and drawknife sheathes and maybe get the stitch right half the time. This video has all the tips I found one at a time from different places. Great close-up shots that were worth the time you spent getting them perfect. Hand movement and everything makes this the best clear examples.

Let me add that putting both needles through at the same time and then passing one thread back and the other forward the Knot is tied. It saves time and steps ---speeds things up. That is how I was taught/ The same move works when you backcast to tie off the last two back stitches. Every stitch is a knot.

That's an excellent tutorial! I've tried Ritza/Tiger thread but I don't like the way it feels or handles, I prefer linen Buy your linen thread from a proper leather craft store, or look for reputable makes like Somac, Crawfords, Fil au Chinois or Barbours. Don't get unbranded stuff off Amazon or eBay as some of it isn't very good If I want to use synthetic thread I use Tandy's Waxed Nylon Thread #1227; I think this is underrated, being cheap, easy to use, and waxed

One can save a lot of time and bother if both needles are passed through at the same time. This will eliminate the problem of piercing the thread with a needle. This is one of the things I learned from my BASS SHOE training.

My confusion is , what is the weight of the thread that you use for different types of stitching. The thread size numbers are confusing.?
@FischerWorkshopsTaiwan4 жыл бұрын
Basically the thread is either 1mm thick or lighter. Such as .5mm and down. 1mm is the thickest thread I use

Do you ever dye the piece after being stitched? The thread would then be waxed and therefor not absorb the stain any better than synthetic thread.

Thanks a million for this video. Simply amazing. Some question please. What basic tools do I need to make a simple leather wallet. Also, in place of a beewax, what material can I use? Thank you.
@FischerWorkshopsTaiwan4 жыл бұрын
Not sure, a candle wax might work. Never tried... For wallet you'll need stitching chisels, harness needles, mallet, punch board, wing divider. I also have several wallet tutorials available on my KZbin Channel you can visit to see some tool options.

Personal preference. Depending on the item linen thread usually looks more attractive, at least that's my opinion.

Depends on the thread thickness. For finer projects I use a size 004 and for larger I might use up to a 3/0 (John James)
