Free Pattern from Nordic Needle Website. Click on link below and find the pattern called “Ivory Octagonal Doily” (about three quarters down the page):

Some fabric/thread suggestions:
Hardanger 22 count or Lugana 25 count fabric with #5 Pearl Cotton (kloster blocks, blanket stitches, satin stitches) and #8 Pearl Cotton (cable stitch, eyelets, woven bars, picots, doves eyes). In place of the #5 Pearl Cotton you can use Caron Watercolours or Valdani #5 Pearl Cotton.
Suggested amount of thread: DMC #5 pearl cotton 1-2 skeins or Watercolours - 2-3 skeins. #8 pearl cotton - 1 ball. If using Valdani #5 - 2 balls.
If you are choosing another fabric count and have questions, please feel free to leave a message and I’ll do my best to answer.
Needle suggestions:
If using 22 count Hardanger or 25 count Lugana with #5 Pearl Cotton (or equivalent), use a size 22 tapestry needle. When using the #8 Pearl Cotton, use a size 24 tapestry needle.

All 4 motifs completed. Thank you!!! Really enjoying this. Started out on 22ct Hardanger. Didn’t care for it. Got 25ct Lugana and love it. On to the next part. I appreciate how you have broken this all down. Coming onto this is overwhelming as different than reading say a cross stitch chart. You have made this doable!!

Thank you. I'm not a beginner but just getting back to hardanger embroidery after a gap of 20+ years. Your videos are a brilliant refresher course and very helpful and enjoyable. I recently stitched this pattern but think I'll do it again now so as I can join in the fun of the Hardanger-a-Long. Might even be brave enough to attempt the picots which I skipped on my first attempt!

I'm so glad you found these videos helpful. I confess, I also skip the picots, I have trouble getting them to sit right. But that's the beauty of hardanger, we can skip something and yet still the piece still looks great! Thanks so much for watching!

From which tip of the center motif to you count out 26 threads for EACH diamond? The next video kloster blocks don't work based on my placement of these.

I am sorry but I think I did not express myself correctly. I wondered if we should finish the other 3 blocks before your next video or should I wait to ensure for the next video so I do it correctly . thanks for the needle threader.

Now I understand! Go ahead and finish all the blocks. Just turn your pattern and/or fabric each time, each block is done the same as the first one. I'm glad you mentioned this, I will try to make this clearer in future videos. This helps me to understand what I should include in my explanations (I'm still learning how to teach this!). You're welcome for the needle threader!

I have difficulty in threading my needle. I tried using a needle threader but keep breaking them. Do you have a tip for me?

Hi Marie-Reine! I use a LoRan needle threader, so far it has never broken. I show it in one of my earlier videos - "WIP Update and Stitching Tools" - fast forward to 2:25 min/sec and I show how I use it. I still have your mailing address and I'll send one out to you (I have lots!).

Hi again! Nordic Needle owns the copyright to this pattern (even though they have posted it as a freebie on their website). I'm not sure how copyright would work in this case, but feel I should stay on the safe side and not send out any of my 'worksheets'. I really hope you understand.
